THT members are excited to receive the offspring to raise.
The “Integrated Livestock Cooperative Managed by Women” in Cam Thach Commune has 20 members, all of whom are poor household, near-poor household, and have garden land for production. By participating in the Cooperative, households are fully supported with breeds and feed, trained in care techniques, building livestock cages, and strictly following the Cooperative's operating regulations... In the first phase, the Provincial Women's Union gave 3,000 breeding chickens and 2,000 kg of mixed feed to Cooperative members to develop the flock and sell meat to increase family income. When it is time to sell the chickens, each household sells the chickens but must leave 10 to 20 hens to continue to multiply the flock and reproduce. With close supervision in preserving breeds and the spirit of solidarity among members, Cooperative members have gradually developed effective livestock farming.
Ms. Truong Thi Huyen, a member of the cooperative, shared: "The first batch I sold 10 million VND worth of broilers and left 30 hens for breeding. During the process of raising and re-flocking, some of my fellow members and I also collected chicks (10 or more per member) and gave them to the cooperative to support members in need in the commune. With this method, we help some women in need to raise them for the long term to have more income for their families."
"After receiving 150 chickens and 100kg of feed in the first batch, my family took good care of them and was able to maintain the flock. After 5 months, my family sold more than 100kg of chickens, earning more than 15 million VND. My family kept 20 hens for breeding. By joining the cooperative, my family has had more conditions to develop production and has initial capital to maintain livestock farming," said Ms. Pham Thi Dong, also a member of the cooperative.
Ms. Do Thi Hien, head of the group, added: "The advantage of the group is that the members' families have large gardens, the household has experience in raising livestock, and the food source is abundant, which is favorable for developing grazing. The women in the group are united and support each other and regularly exchange experiences in raising livestock, so the livestock raising efficiency is very good. The members contribute 500,000 VND/person to the fund for activities, support each other, and also collect livestock to cause disadvantages to women in the commune."
According to the calculation of the THT, after 5 months of receiving the chickens, the household took good care of them and sold them at the right time for the Lunar New Year, so they got a good price. On average, each household in the first batch was given 150 chickens and 100kg of feed. After only 4 to 5 months, some household sold chickens for 100,000 VND/kg or more. The household earned at least 10 million VND in profit, the largest household earned 15 million VND. In addition, the household also kept some chickens to re-raise the flock and shared the chickens with poor members in the commune to raise together, in order to support each other in economic activities, aiming to develop goods.
Realizing that the livestock model is effective and has practical significance, in May 2025, the Provincial Women's Union continued to give the second batch of 2,000 breeding chickens to the members of the Cooperative, bringing the total number of breeding chickens under the food hygiene and safety program to 5,000. On average, in both batches of breeding chickens, each household received 250 chickens and 100kg of mixed feed.
Currently, household are taking good care of their livestock and all realize that raising livestock according to the cooperative system has helped them reduce costs when buying food; share experiences, support vaccination, disease prevention and, importantly, solve the problem of fragmented livestock farming, create a large volume of products, meet market demands and increase income.
