In recent years, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has become an important driving force to promote the rural economy in Hoa Binh province (formerly known as Phu Tho province). With rich potential in natural resources, the province has impressive and unique OCOP products, contributing to increasing people's income.

Hoa Binh province (old) has more than 70% of the population being ethnic areas, such as Muong, Thai, Dao, H'Mong, Tay... Each ethnic group has its own culture, traditional products and distinct production methods. This is an important foundation for developing unique OCOP products such as: Can wine, bamboo rice, Muong brocade, natural medicinal herbs, wild honey, Cao Phong oranges, Tan Lac red grapefruit, highland organic vegetables, and products processed from hill chickens, Da River fish...

In recent times, the locality has proactively supported cooperatives, production households and small enterprises to gradually improve designs and packaging, improve product quality and develop value chains. Of the 126 OCOP products, two products have achieved the national 5-star OCOP standard in 2024: Ready-to-cut pickled bamboo shoots and ready-to-cook dried bamboo shoots of Kim Boi Joint Stock Company; 15 4-star products and 109 3-star products. Pa Co Shan Tuyet Tea of ​​Phuong Huyen Hoa Binh Company Limited; Nhung Van Turmeric Spice Powder of Nhung Van Hoa Binh Company Limited; Detox Orange Tea of ​​3T Farm Cooperative; Community Tourism in Mo Hamlet, Thung Nai Commune... achieved 4-star OCOP at the provincial level in 2024.

A highlight is linking OCOP with community tourism. In communes such as Mai Chau, Muong Hoa, Tien Phong, etc., visitors can experience traditional cultural spaces and enjoy and shop for OCOP products on the spot.


Ms. Hoang Viet Ha, owner of the gift brand "Hoa Dat Muong", shared that "Hoa Dat Muong" is a local product packaged into friendly gift bags, introduced to domestic and international visitors when they come to Hoa Binh. "Hoa Dat Muong" brings together more than 100 OCOP, organic, VietGAP agricultural products of the province with strong Muong identity including: Cao Ca Gai Leo, Cao Xa Den, Tam That tea, Giao Co Lam, Lemon tea with honey, Chieng Chau brocade scarf, Pieu scarf, Orange jam, vermicelli, bamboo shoots... All products have stamps and labels to trace their origin.

Improve quality, expand market

Hoa Binh is also actively applying information technology in promoting OCOP products. The products have been placed on e-commerce platforms such as Postmart, Voso, Shopee, Tiki, etc.


Mr. Nguyen Huy Nhuan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho, said that the locality is making efforts to focus on key solutions such as: improving product quality, building stable raw material areas, training local human resources and supporting trade promotion. The industry is also promoting connections between businesses, cooperatives and production households, forming a synchronous production - consumption network.

In 2025, the locality will continue to synchronously deploy solutions from planning, promotion, intellectual property protection to quality standards (VietGAP, GMP, HACCP...); focus on standardizing 80 OCOP products at provincial level or higher (achieving from 3 to 5 stars); expand introduction and sales points across the province, including presence on e-commerce platforms Shopee, Lazada, Sendo...

Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee Dinh Cong Su said: We continue to direct local authorities at all levels; diversify forms of propaganda through mass media; strengthen training, coaching, guidance and strictly control the application and comply with technical standards in production. Along with that, the province will strengthen trade promotion and implement general intellectual property protection for the entire program; widely promote the OCOP Program, criteria of OCOP products to a wide range of consumers in the area; build the OCOP brand with products that ensure quality, competitive prices, meet the needs of consumers.
