Adjustment before new school year
The Ministry of Education and Training has informed about the review and adjustment of some contents in the 2018 General Education Program to ensure suitability with reality and new development context.
composed, the 2024-2025 school year is the year in which the 2018 General Education Program will complete a cycle from grade 1 to grade 12 according to the roadmap. Implementing the instructions of the National Assembly and the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized steps to review and evaluate the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program.
In 2025, the review of curriculum and textbooks will be carried out in the context of the whole country implementing the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units according to Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 dated June 12, 2025 of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units.
Based on the review, the Ministry of Education and Training has identified a number of subjects that are directly affected by the change of administrative boundaries, including: History and Geography for grades 4, 5, 8, and 9; Geography for grade 12; History for grade 10, and Economic and Legal Education for grade 10. For example: The History - Geography textbook for grade 8 (Connecting knowledge with life), page 99, the extension section provides information about Phong Nha - Ke Bang cave (former Quang Binh province) which is no longer relevant to current reality because after the merger, the name of Quang Binh province no longer exists...
created, these subjects will take steps according to regulations to edit the subject program as a basis for editing textbooks, such as updating requirements, knowledge content, place names, data, maps, charts and socio-economic information...
The revision of the subject program is carried out on the principle of minimizing changes to textbooks and strengthening guidance so that teachers and schools can proactively implement the program according to their authority to suit reality.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoi - Principal of Khanh Nhac B Primary School (Khanh Nhac, Ninh Binh) expressed: The merger of provinces creates favorable conditions for the economic and social development of the country, including the education sector.
At the beginning of the merger, there will be some materials in textbooks (local education, history, geography) that must be changed to suit the new situation. Therefore, schools and teachers hope that the Ministry of Education and Training as well as publishers will make adjustments during the summer vacation so that when the new school year begins, students and teachers will have books adjusted to teach and study in accordance with the actual situation.
Ms. Hoi also suggested that the subject of Local Education could be integrated into the textbooks of some subjects such as History, Geography, Nature and Society, etc.; it could be clearly noted which period would cover the Local Education section. reactive, teachers would proactively add local education materials to their teaching. Thus, students will not have to buy more books, save a lot of money.
Sharing the same opinion with Ms. Hoi, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy - History teacher, Binh Yen High School (Binh Yen, Thai Nguyen) expressed: "Currently, the two-level government has come into operation, the provinces have merged, so I hope the Ministry of Education and Training as well as publishers will soon complete updating new materials for teaching.
For example, in History, when talking about historical places, if updating according to the old or new address, there needs to be specific instructions. For example: The historical place name Doi Khau Ty (Diem Mac commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province) is the first residence and workplace of President Ho Chi Minh, if according to the new merger, it is Phu Dinh commune, Thai Nguyen. These are two communes, two different locations, however, the information about the first residence of President Ho Chi Minh must be accurate.
In addition, for high school students, the curriculum of grades 10, 11 and 12 are all included in the exam questions of the High School Graduation Exam, so Mr. Thuy hopes that the Ministry of Education and Training and publishers will soon review and have an adjustment plan so that when entering the school year, students will have textbooks that meet the requirements of studying and taking exams.

The methods, knowledge, especially the teaching methods of textbooks are improved in the direction of developing capacity and skills in the right direction.
