Record high fruit and vegetable exports

VnExpressVnExpress26/08/2023

In eight months, fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach 3.5 billion USD, an increase of nearly 56% over the same period in 2022 and a record high ever.

This level is also higher than the total export turnover of fruits and vegetables last year, according to preliminary statistics from the Customs. Among the fruit and vegetable groups, durian and dragon fruit are the fruits that contributed the most to this growth. Durian exports in the first 8 months accounted for 30% of the total turnover. It is forecasted that this type of fruit will help fruit and vegetable exports continue to break through and exceed this year's plan.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that the reason for the positive fruit and vegetable export is due to the increased purchases from the Chinese market. In addition, this year's drought and floods have caused many countries to increase their imports of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.

In September, when most of the supply in Southeast Asian countries is gone, the price of Vietnamese durian will continue to increase. The export of this fruit for the whole year is expected to reach the milestone of 1.5 billion USD.

In the near future, Vietnamese jackfruit will also increase sharply in the Chinese market as the country's demand increases. Currently, China is considering allowing Vietnamese fresh coconuts to be officially exported. If approved in the near future, Vietnamese coconut exports will have many breakthroughs as the US has recently allowed Vietnam to export fresh coconuts (green peeled and partly white).

According to the management board of Dong Dang - Lang Son economic zone, China has continuously made requirements for the quality of Vietnam's agricultural products for export, especially pest control on fruits. This country still conducts 100% inspection of agricultural products and fruits imported from Vietnam. If pests are found on the goods, they will handle them very severely, requiring the entire shipment to be returned. Therefore, authorities advise businesses to be careful and strictly control goods to avoid losing reputation in the billion-people market.

According to the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), China is the leading market for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable imports. In the first 7 months, fruit and vegetable exports to China reached 2 billion USD, an increase of more than 128% over the same period in 2022.

Next, exports to the US market reached over 140 million USD, down more than 11% compared to the same period last year; Korea reached 125 million USD, up 13%; Japan reached 105.6 million USD, up 5.5%...
