Proposal to support road repair across the border in Laos

Quang Tri province has just proposed that the Government support Laos in building a road section across the border to facilitate import and export and trade of goods in the face of the serious damage to the road section from Cha Lo international border gate (Quang Tri) to Na Phau (Kham Muon province, Laos), making it difficult for vehicles to cross the border.

Accordingly, National Highway 12A and the Cha Lo - Na Phau international border gate are vital routes connecting Quang Tri province with Khammouane province in particular, the Central Laos region and the northeastern region of Thailand in general. However, currently, the 18km long road from Na Phau border gate to Khammouane province is seriously damaged, affecting the transportation and circulation of goods across the border.

In particular, recently, at the Cha Lo International Border Gate (Quang Tri), there have been many times of congestion with hundreds of vehicles waiting in long queues, making it difficult for vehicles to transport goods across the Vietnam - Laos border area.

To promote import and export activities through the Cha Lo - Na Phau international border gate, Quang Tri province proposed that the Government and the Prime Minister allow the use of aid capital for Laos from the central budget to support the neighboring country in repairing this road section.

Previously, Na Phau International Border Gate (Laos) also sent a notice to relevant sectors, businessmen, and vehicles entering and exiting the international border about creating favorable conditions for repairing the 18km long road (from the border marker of the two countries Vietnam - Laos to Lang Khang intersection, Laos). Accordingly, vehicles regularly traveling on this road are restricted from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, starting from May 15 until the road is repaired.

Cha Lo international border gate plays a very important role, being one of the main trading points between Vietnam and Laos in the import and export of goods, agricultural products, construction materials, machinery and equipment... On average, every day, hundreds of trucks from the domestic market pass through this border gate to Laos or continue to transport to Thailand.
