According to the Department of Drug Administration, Ministry of Health , recently, the business and production of some products related to human health that are not in accordance with the law has been discovered by authorities.
Strengthen inspection and supervision of pharmaceutical ingredient trading
Pursuant to Directive 13/CT-TTg dated May 17, 2025 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the new situation and to strengthen the management of pharmaceutical business activities to ensure the health benefits of the people, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Department of Health of provinces and cities to direct the pharmaceutical ingredient wholesale establishments operating in the area to conduct business, report and use pharmaceutical ingredients in accordance with the provisions of the law on pharmaceuticals; strictly prohibiting pharmaceutical business activities as prescribed in Article 6 of the 2016 Pharmacy Law.
At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of the trading of pharmaceutical ingredients in the area, especially pharmaceutical ingredients that must be specially controlled, to ensure that trading is in accordance with legal regulations; strictly handle violations and send reports to the Department of Drug Administration.
For establishments producing drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients; establishments exporting and importing drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requires the production, export, import, trading and use of pharmaceutical ingredients for the right purposes and in accordance with the provisions of the law on pharmaceuticals.
Fully and timely report according to the provisions of law and when requested by competent authorities.
Previously, the Drug Administration of Vietnam also sent a document to the Department of Health of provinces and cities, hospitals, institutes under the Ministry, and drug production and import establishments regarding ensuring drug supply.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests localities to direct their affiliated units to develop plans and implement drug procurement to ensure adequate drug supply and absolutely prevent drug shortages to serve the medical examination and treatment of the people.
Hospitals and institutes under the Ministry proactively contact drug suppliers to place orders, monitor delivery progress, promptly make additional purchases in case of drug shortage risk, and ensure drug supply readiness.
If necessary, medical examination and treatment facilities shall proactively seek drug supply sources, carry out imports in accordance with the law and seek alternative treatment measures.
Drug manufacturing and importing establishments must increase supply, develop and implement drug supply plans to serve people's medical examination and treatment needs, promptly supply enough drugs when receiving orders from medical examination and treatment establishments, prevent speculation and increase drug prices; report to the Drug Administration when drugs are at risk of shortage...
