In the new house still smelling of cement, Mr. Ban Dun Choi, Khuoi Luong village, Ba Be commune, said: The house cost more than 1 billion VND to build. All the money came from Ban Dun Minh, my son and his wife who are working in Taiwan. The children sent it back for their father to build a house. After their working term there ends, they will return home and not have to worry about building a house.

Having a new house means “settling down and having a career”. Moreover, living in a house that is not affected by rain or wind, “people” will feel secure, have good health, and be able to focus on daily farm work and raising children.

Talking to us, Mr. Sung A Thang, Ta Han village, Nam Cuong commune, boasted: Thanks to participating in labor under a fixed-term contract abroad, my family has saved money to build a house. Not only me, in Ta Han there are nearly 20 laborers working abroad. Some of them have returned and registered to continue working.

The couple Ban Dun Minh and Sung A Thang are 3 cases out of more than 20,000 workers of Thai Nguyen province who are working abroad for a limited period under contract.

In the past 2 years alone, the province has had more than 8,800 cases of qualified workers going abroad to work. Of which, in 2023, there were 5,100 people, in 2024, there were more than 3,700 people. In the first 6 months of 2025, there were more than 1,000 more people, mainly to the labor markets: Japan; Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, China, Saudi Arabia... About 70% are unskilled workers, working in the fields of production - manufacturing; health care and agriculture , construction.

It is estimated that an average worker has an income of 20 million VND/month after deducting expenses, so with the number of 20,000 workers regularly working abroad, they will send back to their families in Thai Nguyen a total of 4,800 billion VND/year. This is a significant financial source that is enough to change the lives of many families, especially poor and near-poor households. Therefore, the province considers sending workers to work abroad for a limited period of time under contract as one of the important solutions in creating new jobs for workers.

Despite some limitations in language barriers, Vietnamese workers, including those from Thai Nguyen, are highly appreciated by the foreign labor market for their capacity, qualities, diligence, not afraid of hardship and open-minded attitude. This is one of the reasons why labor markets in many countries around the world are always open to welcome Thai Nguyen workers and interns to work and study.

To meet the overseas labor market, in recent years, the province's functional departments and agencies have always focused on training and improving the quality of human resources.

Enterprises participating in training and sending Vietnamese people to work abroad under contracts are actively innovating, focusing on vocational training to adapt to the rapid changes in the labor market. They are proactive in creating breakthroughs in human resource development, especially high-quality human resources with vocational skills.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Dong Bam residential group, Linh Son ward, has been to Taiwan to work twice. Each time he went for 3 years, when he returned he had a certain amount of capital, part of which he used to build a house, the rest was invested in buying agricultural machinery for production.

Mr. Tuyen shared: Determining that going abroad is to do business, most Vietnamese workers are diligent, thrifty, and strictly follow the laws of the host country so that when they return, they will have capital to improve their family's economy.

The house of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen's family, Dong Bam residential group, Linh Son ward, was built with money saved from working abroad.

Participating in the overseas labor market, workers themselves are also aware of the need to improve their skills, making it easier for them to find job opportunities to earn better income. Units participating in sending workers to work abroad under fixed-term contracts always focus on consulting and guiding workers to choose and register in labor markets that ensure safety, suitable jobs and stable wages.

Before completing procedures to go abroad to work, businesses have organized for employees to participate in orientation education courses; and issued certificates of completion of orientation education courses. Thereby, employees are equipped with basic knowledge about the traditions, cultural identity, and laws of the host country. Therefore, most Thai Nguyen employees are not surprised, quickly adapt to the requirements of the job and have their salary sent home to their families after 1 month of departure.

Sharing with us, Master Bui Tien Dat, Head of Market Information Department (Provincial Employment Service Center), said: In order for workers to participate in the overseas labor market safely, the Center proactively coordinates with all levels, sectors, and localities to strengthen the organization of propaganda and dissemination of related legal policies, especially for workers who want to go abroad to work. Thanks to that, workers have improved awareness and have a more complete understanding when participating in the overseas labor market.

Mr. Trieu Van Tai, Pac Phai village, Cho Ra commune, said: The family's economy was difficult before, we had to borrow money to have enough money for our son and daughter-in-law to go to Taiwan to work. Now, the two of them have just left for Taiwan to work for the second time, with an income of 20 million VND/person after deducting expenses. The two of them together earn 40 million VND/month to send back to their grandparents to raise 2 grandchildren. Not only did I pay off all my debts, I also have enough money to raise my grandchildren and build a decent house.

Many people have proactively participated in the overseas labor market and achieved the desired results. Mr. Duong Quy Ngoc in Dan Tien commune is a proof. Graduated with a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry (University of Agriculture and Forestry - Thai Nguyen University), he worked for a number of companies in the province but his income was not as expected. While still wondering, he was advised by an employee of Hashi Vietnam International Cooperation Joint Stock Company in Thai Nguyen to participate in the High-Quality Engineer Program to work in Japan. In 2023, he met all the conditions and was allowed to go to Japan to work, with a salary of 50 million VND/month.

Most workers who return after working abroad have a more stable and prosperous life than before. However, the general policy of the province in sending workers to work abroad under contract is not simply to reduce poverty, but to train and improve the quality of human resources. Workers go to learn, collect information, accumulate experience and create start-up capital when they return.

And those who returned told their relatives the story of working abroad with an industrial style; a high sense of responsibility; and making every effort to create a better life in their own homeland.
