The industrial sector is the biggest bright spot in the city's overall growth picture. |
Industry is changing rapidly
For a long time, in Hue 's growth structure, industry has often been "weaker" than other sectors. However, the first half of 2025 has proven the opposite: Industry has not only accelerated, but also emerged as a prominent bright spot.
According to data from the Hue City People's Committee, the industry and construction sector recorded a growth rate of more than 12.72% in the first 6 months of the year. Some sectors had spectacular growth rates, such as automobile production increased 13 times, electricity production increased 62.6%, glove production increased more than 3.4 times... These figures are not simply a recovery but a sign of the industrial restructuring towards modernity and high added value.
At the regular meeting of the Hue City People's Committee last June, Mr. La Phuc Thanh, Director of the Department of Finance, commented that the emergence of large projects such as the Kim Long Motor complex, the glass factory, the high-tech quartz sand factory, etc. shows that Hue's industry is clearly shifting from small-scale to large-scale, from traditional to technological, from dependent to self-reliant.
Along with industry are remarkable figures on domestic investment. Total capital investment realized in 6 months reached nearly 20,000 billion VND, up 39% over the same period. Of which, Kim Long Motor project alone was adjusted to increase capital by 21,000 billion VND, a rare signal in the context of investment capital flow tending to slow down nationally.
More notably, while many localities are facing withdrawal or waiting from investors due to problems with land, policies or lengthy procedures, Hue has proven its ability to effectively "untie the knot". By maintaining more than 420 steering meetings in 6 months, and the continuous operation of 4 working groups to support businesses, the Hue government is affirming its role as an action-oriented government, not waiting for mechanisms, not being passive in the face of challenges.
In particular, the restructuring of 133 commune-level administrative units into 40 new units - a "major surgery" in the organizational apparatus not only demonstrates the determination to innovate, but is also a real test of the management capacity. Initial results show that the conversion process does not cause disruption or interruption to administrative procedures. The new model is showing its effectiveness: The administrative apparatus has become more streamlined, effective and closer to the people.
Of course, industry is just a slice of Hue's overall development picture. Services are still a major pillar, with a growth rate of 9.43%, accounting for nearly 50% of the economic structure; Agriculture, forestry and fishery, despite being affected by the weather, still grew by 1.3%, showing the necessary stability. But the highlight is that the growth sectors are not separate, but support and resonate with each other, between industry and services, between production and investment, between economic growth and quality of life.
The two-level local government model will facilitate people and businesses when carrying out administrative procedures. |
Promoting human potential
In the context of the national economy still facing many challenges, Hue not only maintains its growth momentum, but also made an impressive breakthrough, a result that is not easy to achieve. And that growth is inseparable from the human factor.
To date, Hue has started construction of 342 houses for households in the housing support program, reaching 100%; of which 316 households have completed, reaching 92.4%. The city has also created jobs for more than 9,000 workers, equivalent to 52% of the annual plan; in particular, it has sent nearly 1,500 workers to work abroad, reaching 71% of the set target.
However, Hue cannot be viewed through the lens of bright colors only, because the agricultural sector is facing difficulties due to climate change and unusual weather. Some key manufacturing industries such as beer, textiles, and cement are still facing many difficulties due to shrinking consumer markets and the impact of the disruption of the global supply chain. Some investment projects have been started but the progress is still sluggish, showing that there are still "bottlenecks" in management and operations that need to be resolved soon.
According to Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, the last 6 months of the year will be a challenging period when natural disasters, unpredictable weather, inflation, price fluctuations, etc. In that situation, the city will focus on implementing key tasks, in which the top priority is to promote disbursement of public capital investment, accelerate site clearance, proactively prevent and fight natural disasters and prevent and fight fires. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong also affirmed his strong determination for Hue to continue to maintain double-digit growth in 2025 not only through beautiful numbers, but also through the quality of substantial and sustainable development.
