Among them, photographer Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh is a familiar name to the Da Nang photography community. With four seasons accompanying DIFF, the winner of the second round of the online photo contest "Da Nang - Light of the New Era" understands that capturing a truly impressive fireworks photo requires not only technique but also an emotional journey. As DIFF 2025 prepares to enter the final night, he shares about his work journey, the secrets behind the lens and the unique appeal of the fireworks festival on the Han River.

“Hunting” for fireworks: the story behind the lens

- Sir, are there any special technical requirements or “tips” for taking photos of fireworks at DIFF? And what are the “golden angles” for taking photos of fireworks?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: Exposure technique is the key factor when taking photos of fireworks, but more important is experience and the ability to feel the rhythm of the performance. Fireworks are not always beautiful from the beginning, the photographer must have observation and judgment to capture the most valuable moments. In terms of location, the stands and along the Han River are always the "golden corners" because they have good visibility and capture the city space as the foreground, creating depth for the photo.

- What is the biggest difficulty when taking photos of fireworks?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: The most difficult thing is to master the light in ever-changing conditions. The series of fireworks are fired continuously with different intensities and shades. If the parameters are not adjusted in time or the exposure is too long, it is easy to burn out or lose details. Each time shooting fireworks is a new challenge, it is impossible to apply a fixed formula for every night of the show.

- How do the photographers usually coordinate with each other and the Organizing Committee to capture the best moments of the festival?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: In addition to taking photos of fireworks, photographers also pay close attention to behind-the-scenes moments, from the preparation work of the teams, the stage, to the atmosphere on the sidelines of the city during the festival. We also work closely with the Organizing Committee to ensure smooth operations, choose good locations without affecting the audience's experience. All aim for a common goal: to tell the story of DIFF through images, not only through fireworks but also through the bustling atmosphere of the city.

- When working at DIFF, besides taking photos of fireworks, what other moments do you usually "hunt" for?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: Besides fireworks, I really like to capture the emotions of the audience - the moments of waiting, the burst of excitement when the fireworks explode, or the excitement of the children. Each face is a separate story, making the photo series have more layers of emotions. Besides, the images of the functional forces silently performing their duties to ensure security and safety for the festival are also very valuable. Such frames help to recreate the DIFF atmosphere more fully and truthfully.

4 seasons with DIFF: from chance to passion

- How many seasons have you been involved with DIFF? What brought you to taking photos at DIFF?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: I have been with DIFF for 4 seasons. The opportunity is also very natural when in recent years, the Organizing Committee has invited teams with increasingly professional and attractive performances, so DIFF attracts a lot of viewers and photographers. For photography enthusiasts like me, this is an event not to be missed.

- How do you feel about DIFF 2025 compared to previous seasons?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: Compared to previous seasons, I see that DIFF 2025 is more methodical and professional. The quality of the teams this year is more consistent, each performance is very methodical, has clear artistic depth, not just a show of technique. In particular, I was really impressed with the performance of team Z121 Vina Pyrotech - the first time representing the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense entered the international arena, but they created a very unique performance, rich in emotion, new techniques and full of Vietnamese identity. It is one of the fireworks displays that makes me feel proud to work at DIFF this year.

- What makes you want to come back to DIFF every year? From the perspective of someone who has been involved for many years, what do you expect for the upcoming fireworks seasons?

NAG Nguyen Van Nhi Trinh: For me, DIFF has something new to discover every year. Not only the artistic ideas in each performance, but also the way the fireworks teams tell stories with light in the sky. It is that constant creativity that always motivates me to come back. I also hope that the following DIFF seasons will continue to see strong investment in the quality of the competing teams, especially those with their own style and clear artistic depth. And of course, the stage and performance space will also be increasingly larger, so that DIFF is truly an international-scale event, maintaining a sustainable attraction for tourists and photographers like us.
