International workshop to consult on the development of nomination dossier for Phong Nha-Ke Bang World Biosphere Reserve

PNKB National Park, with its outstanding global values in geology, geomorphology, biodiversity and ecological and biological processes, has been twice recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

PN-KB National Park is also home to many unique indigenous cultural values of local people and a system of important historical and cultural relics. Over the past 22 years, the UNESCO World Heritage title awarded to PN-KB National Park has created great impetus for the local socio -economic development, contributing to making PN-KB a famous destination in the country and the world.

At the workshop, the Management Board of PN-KB National Park received many opinions from domestic and international experts and scientists ; central and local managers; and experiences of World Biosphere Reserves in Vietnam on organizational and operational models to complete the nomination dossier for the PN-KB World Biosphere Reserve, ensuring compliance with UNESCO criteria; while also linking with the strategy for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.

The international workshop on consultation on the development of the nomination dossier for the PN-KB World Biosphere Reserve is an opportunity for the Management Board of the PN-KB National Park to review, supplement and complete the dossier; especially on issues such as: Name, management model, ecological representativeness and area scale of functional areas according to UNESCO criteria; international commitments and regional linkages in the cross-border context with Hin Nam No National Park (Laos) so that the nomination dossier for the PN-KB World Biosphere Reserve is completed comprehensively, meets quality standards, fully reflects the outstanding values of the area as well as management practices...
