July 1, 2025, marking a historical milestone - Ho Chi Minh City merges its administrative boundaries with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces. From here, the largest multi-centered megacity in the country is formed. Each area in the new metropolis plays the role of a "dynamic center" with separate functions but is closely connected, forming a unified whole - a multi-polar development belt, spreading to the entire Southern economic region and further towards becoming the economic, financial and service center of Asia.
According to VTC News, from Ben Thanh, Dong Khoi to Thu Thiem - the area that is growing into a "new Eastern city" - a modern urban ecosystem is gradually taking shape. High-rise financial buildings, green office buildings, high-end riverside residential areas and smart infrastructure according to international standards are gradually establishing a new look for the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
The center of Ho Chi Minh City does not develop independently but is closely connected to Thu Thiem, which is growing into an international financial district of the expanding metropolis. Key projects such as the Financial Center, Central Square, Thu Thiem Theater, high-end hotel systems and creative spaces are shaping Thu Thiem into a future urban area, connected to the central core via Ba Son Bridge and the Saigon River Tunnel.
Connectivity to the central region will become clearer when Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) opens in December 2024, operating stably with more than 200 trips per day. This Metro line is considered the backbone of public transport, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the new urban area of Thu Thiem, while expanding connections to high-tech parks, universities and Binh Duong industrial zones.
From Ben Thanh to Thu Thiem, the center of Ho Chi Minh City is not only a symbol of urban history but is also repositioning itself to become the strategic economic core of the expanding megacity.
Located at the northern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong - with the core of Song Than Industrial Park is rising to become a strategic development pole in the Ho Chi Minh City metropolis after the merger. From the foundation of an "industrial capital" that has been systematically planned for over 20 years, Binh Duong is now not only a place for concentrated production but also shaping a new role as a dynamic region integrating smart administration - industry - logistics.
Regional connectivity at the northern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Binh Duong) is also increasingly complete with a continuous traffic system such as the expanded National Highway 13, My Phuoc - Tan Van Expressway, DT 743, and especially the strategic connection with Ring Road 3, helping to quickly connect to the eastern gateway of the city (formerly Thu Duc City), Thu Thiem financial center, Cat Lai port and international trade routes.
Located southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Cai Mep - Thi Vai port, one of the largest deep-water ports in Southeast Asia, is planned to become an international transit port in the future.
Cai Mep Port is directly connected to Cat Lai Port and the logistics rear areas of Thu Duc (old) and Binh Duong (old), forming a seamless supply chain. The long-term vision is to form a coastal logistics - industrial belt, supporting exports of the key economic region of the South.
Along with that, Vung Tau beach with its advantages of climate, landscape and tourism infrastructure will become a coastal resort city combining financial services - marine technology, developing a smart tourism model, quickly connecting to the center of Ho Chi Minh City via highways and coastal roads.
After the merger, the expanded Ho Chi Minh City megacity is carrying the mission of becoming the leading economic center of the region, an international trade gateway and a place to create a sustainable urban lifestyle. Each area in the megacity does not develop alone but is a link in the overall strategy, promoting the breakthrough development of the whole region.
July 1st is not only an administrative milestone, but also the opening day of a new urban era, where Vietnamese aspirations, bravery and intelligence converge and spread strongly globally.
