According to information from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's rice export prices today remained unchanged from the previous session. Specifically, 25% broken rice was traded at $358/ton; 100% broken rice was priced at around $317/ton; meanwhile, 5% broken rice is currently listed at $382/ton. This price is equivalent to Thailand's 5% broken rice, but lower than Pakistan's, where the same type of rice is being sold at $386/ton.
In India, 5% broken rice prices were lower at around $380 per tonne, while 5% broken parboiled rice was held steady at $366 per tonne.
In the first half of 2025, Vietnam's agricultural sector recorded a slight increase in rice output, but still faced great pressure due to the continuous decline in rice export prices.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of the end of June, the rice cultivation area nationwide reached more than 5.2 million hectares, with a harvest of about 22.7 million tons, a slight increase compared to the same period last year. However, although the volume of rice exports increased by 7.6% to 4.9 million tons, the export value decreased by 12.2%, showing a clear decrease in selling prices. On average, each ton of rice only cost 517.5 USD, a decrease of nearly 100 USD/ton compared to last year.
A report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts global rice production to reach 541.6 million tons, with India continuing to lead in production and exports. Global rice inventories also reached a record 187.8 million tons, mainly concentrated in China and India.
Vietnam’s rice export market shows that the Philippines is still the largest customer, but the import value from this country decreased by 17.4%. In contrast, exports to Bangladesh increased sharply, up to 293 times, while exports to Malaysia decreased by nearly 55%.
