Domestic rice price

Rice prices in the Mekong Delta continued to maintain a stable trend on June 23, with no significant changes recorded compared to recent sessions. According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the market has not yet seen any new factors driving up prices, while trading demand remains low.

Specifically, the prices of fresh rice varieties are still fluctuating within a narrow range. OM 5451 rice is purchased at 5,900 - 6,100 VND/kg; OM 504 remains at 5,500 VND/kg; OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 fluctuate from 6,000 - 6,100 VND/kg, of which Dai Thom 8 has decreased slightly by about 200 VND/kg compared to the beginning of the week. IR 50404 rice is currently at 5,300 - 5,500 VND/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 variety holds the highest price in the region at 6,650 - 6,750 VND/kg.

In the raw rice and finished rice market, prices remain stable. CL 555 raw rice is fluctuating between VND 8,250 - 8,350/kg; IR 504 is at VND 8,050 - 8,150/kg; OM 380 is at VND 7,850 - 7,900/kg; OM 5451 is at around VND 9,100 - 9,150/kg. OM 18 rice currently has the highest price in the raw rice group, from VND 10,200 - 10,400/kg. Meanwhile, OM 380 finished rice is traded at VND 8,800 - 9,000/kg; IR 504 is at VND 9,500 - 9,700/kg.

Regarding by-products, the market has not fluctuated much. OM 5451 broken rice price remains around 7,400 - 7,500 VND/kg, while bran price fluctuates from 9,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. Actual records show that demand for dry rice and by-products is still quite slow, many warehouses in the region limit purchases to wait for new market developments.

Rice supply in some areas such as OM 380 or IR 50404 is assessed to be quite scarce, but the actual volume of transactions is still low due to weak purchasing power. The Summer-Autumn rice market is slow, most traders and businesses are in a wait-and-see mode, cautious in signing new contracts.

At retail markets, rice retail prices remain stable. Nang Nhen rice is currently listed at the highest price on the market at VND28,000/kg. Other popular rice varieties such as regular rice are priced at VND13,000 - 14,000/kg; Jasmine at VND16,000 - 18,000/kg; common white rice and Soc Thai fluctuate around VND16,000 - 20,000/kg. Jasmine rice, Japanese rice and Taiwanese rice are sold at VND20,000 - 22,000/kg, unchanged from the previous trading session.

Export rice price

According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's rice export prices remain unchanged. 5% broken rice remains at $387 per ton, 25% broken rice at $362 per ton, and 100% broken rice at $319 per ton.

In the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 4.5 million tons of rice, earning 2.34 billion USD. Although the volume increased by 12.2% compared to the same period in 2024, the value decreased by 8.9%, due to the average price falling to 516.4 USD/ton - 18.7% lower than the same period.

The Philippines continues to be the largest consumer market, accounting for more than 41% of the market share, but the export value to this country decreased by 21.8%. Exports to Indonesia fell sharply by 97.9%. In contrast, the Chinese market is gradually recovering, becoming the third largest market with a market share of 10.3%, and a value growth of 83.7%. Bangladesh alone recorded a sudden export increase of 515.6 times.

Indonesia, a country that used to import rice from Vietnam, is expected to produce more than 18.8 million tons of rice in the first half of 2025, up 11.2% year-on-year. With total output forecast to exceed demand for the year, the country may switch to exporting.

In China, Vietnamese rice is facing fierce competition from Thailand and Cambodia. At the same time, India continues to consolidate its position as the world's number one rice exporter, exporting nearly 20 million tons of rice in the last crop year, up more than 21% over the previous year.
