Ha Truc Linh, 21 years old, from Dak Lak, is a student at the University of Finance and Marketing (HCMC). On June 27 in Hue city, she surpassed 21 contestants to win the crown of Miss Vietnam 2024. The beauty is one of the outstanding candidates throughout the six months of the contest. Ha Truc Linh has a bright face, is 1.71 m tall, and has measurements of 75-61-94 cm.
Parents lay the first bricks of life skills
Miss Vietnam Ha Truc Linh is grateful to her parents who started from scratch, worked as teachers and doing business so that their children can have a stable life. Truc Linh's family is not too rich, only saving enough to send her two sisters to school properly. According to Truc Linh, her parents have gone through a long journey, trying to give her two sisters a full life, both materially and spiritually. In addition to teaching at primary school, her father runs a motorbike spare parts store, he knows how to repair motorbikes so he taught her some basic skills. Her mother owns a grocery and stationery store. When she was young, Truc Linh often helped her sell.
Willpower and perseverance help overcome difficulties in life
In 2023, after becoming Miss University of Finance - Marketing, Truc Linh had a lung-related health problem and had to be treated for eight months. Fortunately, she was young and played sports regularly, so she recovered well. In addition, she also persevered in eating a balanced diet, helping her have enough health to participate in the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest.
Truc Linh's family follows Buddhism, she also took refuge in Buddha, with the dharma name Quang Truc. Her mother always guides her to do good, keep a bright mind, learn from them how to treat people around her well, and do everything with all her heart. These qualities have helped Truc Linh overcome many difficulties in life.
The journey to the throne is full of thorns but convincing
Every month, in addition to tuition fees, Truc Linh's parents give her six million VND for rent and living expenses. Truc Linh has savings because she doesn't spend all of this money, plus savings from modeling. During the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest, her older sister also supported her, borrowing most of her clothes, handbags, and accessories from her older sister. Since childhood, she and her older sister have had the same clothing size, so they often share. Truc Linh rarely buys clothes, usually only shopping for Tet. She uses items that are not too expensive but are durable and can be worn over and over again. Along with her older sister, when competing in the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest, she borrowed a lot of clothes and shoes from her friends, so she spent less money. During the contest, in addition to the beauty pageants, the judges evaluated Truc Linh's answers to questions about AI well, which were true to real life. The judges agreed when the new beauty queen stated that AI also needs to be taught and given the right commands, and technology should not be abused. The combination of beauty, soul, and intelligence helped her overcome many difficulties and convincingly win the crown.
Just a few days after being crowned Miss Vietnam 2024, Miss Ha Truc Linh came to Nhan Dan newspaper and had an interview on the program Nhan Dan Coffee.
Welcome Miss Ha Truc Linh to the People's Coffee program
Editor Thanh Tu: Having been self-conscious about her beauty until being crowned Miss Vietnam 2024, can Truc Linh share what moment in this journey made you realize that you can overcome all your limits to conquer Miss Vietnam 2024?
Miss Truc Linh: Since I was in secondary school, I have been very self-conscious. But fortunately, I received support from my family, especially when I had my teeth fixed, giving me a beautiful smile and more confidence. Thanks to that, I started to be more open, dared to smile more and participate in activities and movements of the Youth Union and Association. Those experiences helped me go to many places, meet and talk to many people, from which I gradually became more confident and open-minded.
When I first registered for Miss Vietnam, I was still quite self-conscious, because I didn't have much experience and had many fears. But I was determined to try my best and see how far I could go. I didn't expect that I could go so far, and even win a very noble title during the competition.
Editor Thanh Tu: During the competition journey, there were definitely times when you felt tired, discouraged, and even moments when you thought about giving up?
Miss Truc Linh: I think feelings like fatigue, weakness or emotion during the competition are very normal, because we are just young girls. When participating in a big competition like Miss Vietnam with many challenges, there will definitely be times when we feel pressured.
Especially when we have to travel far for a long time, then have to get used to a completely new form like a reality TV show. We have to constantly practice, get used to outdoor challenges, filming outdoors... so sometimes we feel really exhausted.
But then I chose to think more positively. I thought that if I didn't go through these difficulties, I would never grow up. Experiences like this are valuable assets, so that when I'm young, I can keep going, keep trying, and later on, I will have my own “quality”, a more stable life.
Editor Thanh Tu: Besides your physical strength, what factors do you think helped you win over the judges and win the contest?
Miss Truc Linh: I think it is the connection. Because I am a very energetic person, and I feel that energy has spread to everyone around me. When I watch talk shows or the sharing of other contestants, I am very touched when I hear them comment that I am an inspirational person, confident, brave and that makes them learn a lot from me.
Hearing such words, I feel very warm and happy. Because I think, besides expressing myself, the most valuable thing is that I have been able to create positive connections with people.
Editor Thanh Tu: If you are not crowned Miss Vietnam 2024, who do you think you will be and what will you do in the present and future?
Miss Truc Linh: If I don't win the crown, I'll still be me - still Ha Truc Linh. I'll just probably follow a different direction, which is to continue to complete my major in Marketing. I also really want to pursue the career I've chosen, and my dream is to become a brand manager in the future.
Editor Thanh Tu: Suppose in 5 years, when you are no longer known as Miss, how do you want people to remember you?
Miss Truc Linh: I have actually thought about this question a lot. For me, the name Ha Truc Linh is already different. But I understand that if I do nothing, do not spread positivity, do not contribute, do not carry out activities for the community, do not help people around me... then no matter how special that name is, no one will remember me.
So, whether I am a beauty queen or not, I will continue to do my job – just like I have always done. Since I was a child, I have often participated in community activities, and people around me commented that I am an active girl, caring and loving towards others. Those are the things that make me feel proud.
So for me, there is no need to become someone great, just live well, live usefully for the community - that is the goal I always aim for.
Editor Thanh Tu: Your charity project “Everyone is a Hero”, which teaches first aid to students in mountainous areas, has left a strong impression. If you were to invite a famous person such as a singer or actor to spread this message, who would you choose and what would you want them to do to help the project touch the hearts of more people?”
Miss Truc Linh: Yes, I really like Mr. Den Vau. As you all have seen, he always maintains a genuine, close and simple image. Everyone must have heard the song "Cooking for Me", a very meaningful song aimed at children in the highlands.
I also want to find people who have the same soul and energy frequency as me. Because when combined with such people, we will create more positive values. Anh Den Vau is someone who understands these things well, so I believe that when we cooperate, we will create a wider spread.
That combination will help him and I convey the message to the public, as well as help people understand and get closer to the meaningful activities we are doing.
Editor Thanh Tu: Can you share more about the project "Everyone is a Hero" so that readers of Nhan Dan newspaper can better understand the meaning and activities of the project?
Miss Truc Linh: I and four of my colleagues have done this project before, but at that time it was only aimed at students in my school. I also realized that when driving or walking on the road, we can easily encounter emergency situations that we cannot foresee. Therefore, if we have basic first aid skills, we can help others right on the spot.
I worked on this project for about half a year and then brought it to the Miss Vietnam contest to share it more widely with everyone. Besides teaching first aid, I also want to spread other survival and life skills, such as drowning prevention.
If I had the opportunity, I would love to invite excellent swimmer Anh Vien to represent me to help and inspire the community.
Editor Thanh Tu: In Vietnam, there are still many difficult circumstances in the highlands, remote areas. And in your homeland, there are still difficult circumstances that need help. What contributions or activities have you made to support those circumstances?
Miss Truc Linh: I have participated in many meaningful activities. I remember when I was in secondary school, I was very happy every time I received awards or new notebooks. I often gave those books and notebooks to ethnic minority students in the area to help them have more learning tools without having to worry about finances.
In addition, I often go with my mother to remote schools to teach my friends. I not only help my friends study but also study with them, exchange about studying as well as artistic skills, help them gain more life skills and joy in life. That helps them to be less self-conscious about their circumstances.
When I was in high school, I was very happy to participate in activities to visit veterans and compatriots on major national holidays. I coordinate with the school and local authorities to visit and learn more about people's current lives as well as their past stories. I felt very proud and grateful to have directly experienced and listened to those meaningful things.
Editor Thanh Tu: When crowned Miss, the responsibility of the Miss towards the community is also very great. With sustainable activities such as environmental protection, green living and healthy living, how do you evaluate your role in spreading those values?
Miss Truc Linh: I am currently a student at the University of Finance and Marketing and I actively participate in activities such as the “7 days of green living” movement. Instead of just planting trees, we also walk, exercise every day and limit the use of single-use plastic items, replacing them with items that can be reused many times. I have participated in many meaningful activities like that.
In particular, in my class there are many very active and creative students. I think that although these activities or campaigns have funny and humorous names, they have a great influence because they are very close to young people like us. In particular, our generation is shouldering a great responsibility in contributing to the development of the country more sustainably.
Therefore, I believe that even small actions, if conveyed through interesting, creative, attractive and meaningful forms, will help the green living movement spread more widely and be more accessible to young people as well as the community.
Miss Vietnam 2024 started at the end of last year, applying the reality TV format for the first time. In the preliminary round, the program attracted thousands of candidates. The organizers selected the top 60, top 45 and finally put the list of 25 girls into the final round.
The event is a beauty contest initiated by Tien Phong newspaper , first held in 1988 under the name Miss Tien Phong Newspaper Association. The first person to hold the crown was Bui Bich Phuong, from Hanoi . Over the years, although many beauty contests have flourished, Miss Vietnam is still considered a quality playground, maintaining its own identity.
