Formation of Ho Chi Minh City megacity and the opportunity for football to transform strongly

Sports are just one of many factors that make up socio-economic activities, but looking at the peak sports achievements, we can evaluate the development of a locality or a country. After the merger of Ho Chi Minh City, sports in general and football in particular are expected to have a strong and comprehensive transformation from grassroots to professional.

Grassroots football activities require deeper and broader development and stronger spread in the community. At the professional level, restructuring football teams opens up a healthy competitive environment, contributing to improving competition efficiency, increasing investment resources and professional quality, attracting the attention of a large number of fans. Currently, the management and development of football activities in the city, although improving, is still uneven among regions; the coaching staff is limited in both quantity and quality; the training and development system for young players is not uniform; investment resources are unstable, facilities do not meet new requirements, etc.

For the city's football activities to develop sustainably, worthy of a modern megacity after the merger, we need to pay attention to implementing well the following groups of tasks:

- Innovate management thinking, while perfecting the legal system: Actively cooperate and take advantage of training resources from specialized institutes and universities in the city; build a team of professional managers, experts and coaches with strategic vision and modern qualifications. Improve football management capacity, perfect related legal documents. Advise on building specific mechanisms and policies, incentives for coaches, experts and scientists to participate in talent training. Create a favorable legal corridor, encourage businesses, organizations and individuals to invest in football as well as maximize capacity and effectively exploit sports facilities.

- Improve the quality of the City Football Federation's activities: Urgently complete key personnel and innovate the Federation's activities in a professional and effective direction. Develop a variety of football activities suitable to the conditions and development potential in each locality of the city in order to effectively utilize resources and promote the strengths of each region, not only in 11-a-side football but also pay attention to developing 7-a-side football, futsal, beach football, women's football, street football, artistic football, etc., contributing to creating richness and diversity in the city's football life.

- Propaganda, education and movement development: Strengthen propaganda, dissemination and raise awareness about developing civilized and healthy football. Promote the role of the Football Federation as well as industries, professional clubs, sports centers, and sports service businesses in the orientation of football development. Create conditions to organize many large-scale grassroots football events with diverse audiences, community football festivals, school football, football among workers, etc. to attract the participation of a large number of people.

- Focus on training: Improve the quality of selection, training and coaching of young talents; Build a modern, systematic and scientific training system; Develop football academies and training centers, increase the application of science and technology in selection, training, management and competition organization.

- Strengthen international cooperation: Inherit and further promote international cooperation activities of city football, typically cooperation in youth football training between Ho Chi Minh City and Lyon (France), between Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club and Kawasaki Frontale (Japan), most recently cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City Club and Gremio Club (Brazil) witnessed by the Government leaders and leaders of the 2 National Football Federations. This activity needs to be paid more attention and implemented more strongly in the coming time.

- Investing in infrastructure and sports facilities: Urgently complete facilities for sports in general and football in particular, meeting new development requirements. Renovate and upgrade existing works and plan and build new sports complexes, including stadiums at different levels, in a modern, scientific direction, qualified to host national and international sports events. Encourage businesses and individuals to invest in building sports facilities that combine many types of entertainment, business and community services, each sports event is a real festival, from organizing and operating professional sports events to promoting entertainment and health training activities in the community.

Forming the super city of Ho Chi Minh City, the city's sports, including Ho Chi Minh City football, are facing the opportunity to transform strongly. This is a great opportunity for the city's sports to continue to make important contributions to the overall success of the national sports sector, as well as effectively promote the image and culture of the city to domestic and foreign friends.
