Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh, an officer of the City Youth Union Office, rented a house to stay in Hai Phong to work with some colleagues.

Many changes

On the bus to work early from Hai Duong ward to Hai Phong City's Political - Administrative Center, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang, a specialist at the Department of Health, took the opportunity to read the documents of the unit after the merger. Although she had just moved to the east of Hai Phong to work for nearly a week, Ms. Trang and many of her colleagues were ready for their new jobs.

The job was not too unfamiliar, but Ms. Trang encountered some difficulties in traveling. However, above all, her spirit of dedication and responsibility helped her quickly integrate with everyone when she arrived at the new workplace.

“To meet the demands of work, I have changed my eating and sleeping hours compared to normal. In the morning, I wake up a little earlier to prepare food for the whole family and lunch for myself, then go to my old office to go with everyone to the east of Hai Phong to work. It’s okay to come home a little late at night, I just want to do my best work,” Trang shared.

Many people call home to visit their families during lunch break.

Many others choose to rent a house, overcoming the commuting problem to adapt to life and work here. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh, an officer of the City Youth Union Office, said: “My children are grown up now. They live with their grandparents, and my father works near home, so my sisters and I rent an apartment near the office to stay and return on weekends. Everyone in the family understands and sympathizes, so I feel more comfortable and can work better.”

Despite many difficulties in travel, cadres, civil servants and public employees in the west of Hai Phong (formerly Hai Duong) always maintain an optimistic spirit for the common work.

Turn challenges into opportunities

Ms. Linh has stabilized her life.

During the transition period between residence and workplace, relatives and colleagues always stand side by side with cadres, civil servants and public employees in the old Hai Duong area. Transportation, time away from home and work pressure are considered the three biggest obstacles for this team. However, with the companionship of family and support from the receiving unit, many people quickly overcame, turning challenges into opportunities.

The receiving agencies in the east of Hai Phong also created conditions for them in terms of accommodation and initial support in their work. Many cadres from the former Hai Duong were sent to attend specialized training courses, or assigned to work with experienced people to shorten the time to get acquainted with the work.

A representative of the Hai Phong City Department of Construction said that the unit determined that this was an inevitable step if the two places wanted to coordinate closely and improve the efficiency of serving the people. The civil servants and public employees are representatives of the grassroots political system. When they work well, understand each other, and share experiences, the coordination at the provincial and regional levels will be truly sustainable.

Last April, the Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee commented in Document 2881, requesting Thai - Holding Joint Stock Company to arrange an apartment block in the Social Housing Project at Lac Vien Warehouse 3, No. 142 Le Lai, Ngo Quyen District for officials from the former Hai Duong province to rent. This proposal aims to support officials in the west of Hai Phong to have a place to live to stabilize their work. The rental period is from 2 to 3 years, after which the investor will continue to open for sale social housing according to regulations. This project has a total investment of nearly 4,900 billion VND with 10 15-storey apartment buildings, about 4,450 apartments.

According to the leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Hai Phong City, the cadres who came to work from the west of the city are highly disciplined, hard-working, and willing to update new knowledge, so they catch up with the work very quickly. This is both a challenge and a motivation and an opportunity to assert themselves, contributing positively to administrative reform, streamlining the apparatus and improving the effectiveness of state management.

After the province was merged, more than 2,500 cadres, civil servants and public employees moved to the east of the city to work in the west of Hai Phong City. Despite many difficulties, with a sense of responsibility, progress, and support from their families and the community, they have constantly tried to turn difficulties into motivation for development.
