Reason for sudden increase in electricity bill in June

Phu Tho Electricity Company staff instruct people on how to use electricity safely and economically.

Receiving the electricity bill for June, Ms. Le Thu Huong, Thanh Mieu ward, was "shocked" because it doubled compared to previous months, with an amount of 4 million VND. She also shared: Last month the weather was hot, there were small children at home so the air conditioner was used continuously, however, I did not think the electricity bill would increase so much.

Not only Ms. Huong's family, in recent days on social networks and in community forums, many people have also shared about this month's electricity bill increasing dramatically compared to previous months. According to records, June 2025 is the peak of the hot season in the North, in which Phu Tho has a common temperature of 33-36°C. There are 17 days in June 2025 in Phu Tho with temperatures above 30°C. This is a direct factor leading to the cooling equipment having to operate continuously and with greater intensity than usual. This is also the month when students are on summer vacation, in addition to children and grandchildren, many families have more adults at home to manage their children and grandchildren, so the number and time of using the equipment increases.

According to data from the Electricity Company, the electricity consumption capacity in the whole province on June 2, 2025 reached 818.5MW, exceeding the highest level of 2024 (recorded at 14:00 on June 19, 2024 was 752.9MW), an increase of 12.2% over the same period in the first 6 months of 2024.

Reason for sudden increase in electricity bill in June

Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang - Head of Business Department, Phu Tho Electricity Company said: "The price of household electricity in Vietnam is currently applied according to the ladder price list (6 levels), with the price increasing gradually according to the consumption output. Therefore, when customers use electricity beyond the lower thresholds, the electricity bill does not increase linearly according to the consumption output.

For example, when electricity output increases by 30% (from 210 to 273 kWh), the electricity bill increases by about 40.2%. When electricity output increases by 30% (from 420 to 546 kWh), the electricity bill increases by about 38.1%”.

With the forecast of hot weather that may continue, the Northern Power Corporation also issued recommendations for customers to continue to join hands in practicing solutions to use electricity economics and efficiently. Limit the use of many high-capacity devices at the same time during peak hours (from 11:30 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 22:00). Prioritize using electricity during off-peak hours to avoid overloading the system and reduce costs.

Use air conditioning economics: Set a reasonable temperature of 26–28°C, combined with a fan to cool faster and more evenly; clean the filter periodically to help the device operate effectively, saving up to 10–15% of electricity; turn off the air conditioner about 30 minutes before leaving the room to save more electricity.

For electrical devices that must be turned off when not in use: Turn off or unplug devices such as televisions, rice cookers, phone chargers, computers... when not in use; avoid leaving devices in standby mode, as they still consume a significant amount of electricity.

Select and replace energy-saving equipment: Prioritize equipment with 4-5 star energy labels certified by the Ministry of Industry and Trade ; use LED lights, inverter air conditioners, and energy-saving refrigerators to reduce monthly electricity costs. Ensure safety in electrical use: Do not plug multiple devices into the same outlet to avoid short circuits and fires; periodically check wires, sockets, and circuit breakers; replace degraded equipment; install anti-shock and anti-overload devices to protect equipment and ensure safety, especially for families with small children.

To avoid surprises when receiving electricity bills, EVNNPC encourages customers to: Regularly monitor electricity meter readings via the EVNNPC Customer Service application or visit the website: cskh.npc.com.vn; Estimate household electricity consumption via the online tool at: https://cskh.npc.com.vn/Home/CongCuTinhDienNangNPC.

By proactively adjusting electricity usage habits, each customer can completely control their family's energy consumption. Let saving electricity become a daily habit - both reducing costs and contributing to ensuring national energy security during the peak hot season. For any questions about electricity usage, customers can contact hotline 19006769 for quick and timely support.
