Mr. Thai Ho Phuong, Director of the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center, said that from August 30 to September 2, the city's subsidized bus routes and the two urban railway routes Cat Linh-Ha Dong and Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station will be free to serve people and tourists on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2.

According to Mr. Phuong, the 80th National Day celebration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is an opportunity to promote the image of the capital to international friends and is a national festival.

In order to support and create the most favorable conditions for people and tourists to travel to historical revolutionary sites, participate in events and activities to celebrate the anniversary, contribute to reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution, from August 30 to September 2, the Center coordinated with bus transport enterprises and Hanoi Railway One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro) to implement free tickets for using subsidized public passenger transport (bus and urban railway) for people and tourists.

Specifically, for buses, passengers are issued tickets at the face value of the route but do not have to pay the fare.

For urban railways, passengers are issued paper tickets with denominations according to regulations of Hanoi People's Committee according to the passengers' travel needs but do not have to pay for tickets.

For passengers using monthly tickets (regular and priority) and free tickets (using hard or virtual cards) presented when participating in the service.

According to Hanoi Metro statistics, on August 21 - the first parade rehearsal day, the two urban railway lines Cat Linh-Ha Dong and Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station (elevated section) operated a total of 518 trains, safely transporting over 140,000 passengers.

Of which, the Cat Linh-Ha Dong route serves more than 110,000 trips, and the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station route serves more than 30,000 trips.

“These are impressive numbers since the two metro lines came into operation, especially for the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway line, which has set a record for the highest number of passengers since the line was put into operation. The number of passengers transported on August 21 was 250% of the number of passengers transported on normal days and double the number of passengers transported during the peak season on September 2 in previous years,” the leader of Hanoi Metro added.

Hanoi Metro also acknowledged that the fact that people chose the Cat Linh-Ha Dong railway to travel to watch the parade not only shows people's excitement and patriotism, but also affirms the increasingly important role of safe, convenient, and environmentally friendly public transport in urban life.
