How did a female graduate become a flight attendant?
Double the challenge of becoming a flight attendant
While waiting for graduation, Phan Kim Dung, a student at Vietnam Aviation Academy, became a flight attendant for Vietnam Airlines.
The journey from lecture hall to airplane cabin is no miracle.
For Kim Dung, it was a dream she had cherished since grade 9, when she first told her grandfather: "In the future, I will become a flight attendant."
Graduating with a degree in air transport management, Kim Dung did not wait for an opportunity to come, but proactively sought it out.
A few months before applying to Vietnam Airlines, she began practicing English, honing her demeanor and communication skills, and preparing thoroughly for the aviation industry's notoriously rigorous selection process.
"Choosing to take the flight attendant exam when I was preparing for graduation, I knew I would have to endure double the pressure. But I believed I could do it, and I was determined to go all the way. I saw this as both an opportunity and a challenge that I had to face before achieving success," Kim Dung shared.
Passing all the tests from appearance, English, group and individual interviews, to psychological and health assessments, she excellently achieved 850 TOEIC points, qualified to both graduate and become a flight attendant.
Previously, Kim Dung had received job offers from several large companies. But she refused to focus on the flight attendant selection exam, a job she considered a worthy destination for the long journey of nurturing her dream.
Dung also said that during her internship at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC), she not only became familiar with the passenger service process but also demonstrated her ability to solve situations in English and Chinese, helping to resolve language barriers, supporting other interns and achieving excellent internship results.
"That was the time that helped me practice patience, emotional control and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment," Dung said.
There is no easy path if you are serious about your dream. It is important to stay positive, research what you are doing, and be prepared to accept failure as part of the journey.
Reach your dream of becoming a flight attendant
According to Kim Dung, the journey to pursue a goal is inevitably lonely and challenging. Therefore, before pursuing a big goal, she always first carefully researches information as well as the challenges she will encounter.
Everything has its challenges and failures, and all you need is passion and perseverance over the years. However, you must try to stay positive and rational in receiving information.
When we are overwhelmed or encounter problems that we cannot solve alone, let us remember that we still have family, friends and loved ones standing by our side.
Sending a message to young people who are nurturing the dream of flying, Dung shared: "Success is not for those who are afraid of falling. Start from the smallest things: learn a foreign language, practice discipline, build confidence. If you fail, try again.
Failure doesn't kill dreams, giving up is the real opportunity thief. Never give up and don't think you can't do it."
Everything has meaning
"I believe everything has its own meaning and value. Accept the challenge, pay the price for the lessons you learn, and the path to success will be right in front of you.
Try to reach a day when you don't need to introduce yourself but are confident that others know you. Success will speak for you" - Kim Dung said.
