Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung shared with VTC News about his aspirations, visions and strategic breakthroughs on the new journey after the merger of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces.
Mr. Ho Quoc Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee.
- As the new leader of Gia Lai province, what is your view on the significance of the unification of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai, sir?
Not only is this a change in administrative boundaries, it is also a major turning point in development thinking. The Central Government has carefully considered the formation of a large-scale administrative- economic entity with strong competitiveness and the ability to deeply integrate into the national and international value chain.
The new Gia Lai province is not only larger in area (ranked 2nd in the country), but also has special advantages: from sea to forest, from high-tech agriculture to seaports - services - logistics. The two localities previously had similarities in history, culture, revolutionary spirit and development aspirations - when combined, they will create a superior resonance.
- What pillars will the new Gia Lai province prioritize in the first phase after the merger?
We identify five key pillars: First, developing processing and manufacturing industry, green industry, renewable energy and semiconductors, AI, associated with innovation.
Second, tourism becomes a key economic sector with in-depth products, exploiting the culture of the Central Highlands - Champa, sea, forest, and heritage.
Third, high-tech agriculture and sustainable forestry, building "agro-industrial bases" and concentrated raw material areas.
Fourth, logistics services, taking advantage of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway, connecting border gates and seaports, bringing local products to the world.
Fifth, develop ecological urban areas and industrial-tourist urban areas in a modern, smart direction with their own identity.

- Many localities have potential but lack a strong management mechanism so they cannot make breakthroughs. So what are Gia Lai's strategic breakthroughs in the coming time?
That's right. Without a breakthrough in management and resources, all potential is just potential. Gia Lai identifies 4 strategic breakthroughs:
Innovating the government model, shifting from management to service, building a modern, effective civil service, digital government, and transparent administrative procedures.
Transport infrastructure, irrigation, ports - logistics, especially the development of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway connecting the highlands - lowlands - coastal areas.
Science and technology, digital transformation, especially in remote areas, to shorten the development gap between regions in the province.
Human development, focusing on training cadres who dare to think - dare to do - dare to take responsibility, building a team with the capacity for digital transformation, green transformation, especially developing the young workforce - nearly 2 million people of working age today.
- The newly formed province is made up of two localities with many differences. What should be done to create social cohesion and consensus as soon as possible, sir?
We have the green forests of the Central Highlands, the vast sea and sky, land and sea ports, agriculture and industry, and a multi-ethnic history and culture. But the greatest asset is the people of Gia Lai – those who know how to rise above hardship and have a desire to contribute.
I want to send a message: Every citizen, every business, every community is a subject of development. Let us lay the foundation for a new Gia Lai province - strong, united, with identity and integration, with the spirit of " One province - one will - one common future ".
Thank you!
An Yen - Nguyen Gia
