People's Artist Trong Phuc and Artist Thanh Hang perform at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street
The book is a work to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, at the same time marking a golden milestone in the history of the North-South theater and towards the 80th anniversary of National Day.
Special book on reformed opera - Typical cultural work
On July 8, at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association organized an exchange program to introduce the book " Ho Chi Minh City Cai Luong Theater from 1975 to 2025" - a typical cultural work to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
The space of the book introduction is an opportunity for young audiences to listen to stories about Ho Chi Minh City's Cai Luong theater, which were collected and introduced quite fully in the book by the City Theater Association.
People's Artist Trong Phuc performed the ancient song "Hang Vo" by composer People's Artist Vien Chau very emotionally. He confided: "I am very happy to sing for the first time at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street in a very special space to promote the work invested in by the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association over the past 2 years. This is a carefully researched and compiled project, recording the half-century journey of development, innovation and preservation of Cai Luong theater - an art form deeply attached to the cultural life of the South".
Artist Thanh Hang was moved because of the family photo.
Artist Thanh Hang was moved when she saw the book with pictures of her family. She said: "It is very meaningful because the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association has created an opportunity for many generations of artists, researchers, and managers of the reformed theater to meet and recall many memories. I chose the song "Bông hồng cái áo" to express my love for the reformed theater, just like the respectful love we have for our mothers."
People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc and People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau - co-editors of the book - signed autographs for young audiences and readers.
The guests included prominent figures who have accompanied and contributed to the book, such as People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc (co-editor), Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong, Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Quoc Thang, director Ton That Can, Dr. Mai My Duyen, Meritorious Artist Le Thien, People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi, People's Artist My Uyen... along with many stage artists and audiences who love Cai Luong theater.
Artist couple Dien Trung and Le Thanh Thao sang a duet of the song "Phat Duyen, Phap Van", bringing excitement to the atmosphere.
The enduring appeal and spread of reformed opera
Meritorious Artist Le Thien shared that this is an event that attracts a large number of young audiences, proving the vitality and lasting spread of Cai Luong in the hearts of modern audiences.
A meaningful reunion of artists from Ho Chi Minh City in the book launch space - a project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association
Editor-in-chief - People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc said: "Fifty years is also enough time to form the personality of artists, composers, managers, painters, musicians participating in theatrical activities, etc. With 50 years of existence of this national art form, we want to talk about the important factor: people - especially those who are devoted to art. From there, we hope that the next generation will continue to promote and maintain the identity of Ho Chi Minh City's reformed theater."
According to Dr. Mai My Duyen, the important thing for Cai Luong today is to change the mindset: "Cai Luong must be modified to make it better, always make it better. And if so, creative thinking cannot remain unchanged, must always be open, always accept new things."
