Trade connection
Trade promotion is considered an effective support for the sustainable development of OCOP products. Since the beginning of the year, the Can Tho Investment - Trade Promotion and Exhibition Fair Center (the Center) has implemented many trade promotion activities, focusing on supporting businesses and participating in many events and fairs in provinces and cities across the country. Through these events, businesses can meet and seek business cooperation opportunities, contributing to the enhancement of trade activities and the expansion of distribution channels.
Saigon Co.op signed a contract to consume Luc Ngan litchi in the Saigon Co.op distribution system nationwide. This is one of the activities in Saigon Co.op's Accompanying OCOP program.
Accordingly, activities are deployed in a diverse and flexible manner to support businesses and industries in connecting domestic market supply and demand; promoting existing markets, while exploiting and expanding to find new markets. Specifically, the Center has supported businesses in displaying, introducing and promoting products through organizing and participating in fairs and markets in districts and towns of the city such as the Trade Union Tet market, the "Bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside" market at the Military and Civilian Tet program... Booths serve people shopping with food products, foodstuffs, garments, handicrafts, cosmetics, local specialties, products that meet OCOP standards. This is one of the practical activities, bringing domestically produced goods closer to consumers, while supporting businesses in promoting their brands, helping consumers know about "high-quality Vietnamese goods".
At the Conference of the Executive Board of the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF) and related activities held in Can Tho City (January 2025), the Center organized a booth to introduce typical products of enterprises such as OCOP products, organic rice, fruit juice, herbal tea, melons... typical products of the Mekong Delta region... In addition, the Center supports enterprises to participate in promoting products in a number of provinces and cities such as the 2025 Da Nang Vietnamese Goods Fair - Honoring OCOP products in Da Nang City, the 4th Hanoi Agricultural Products Festival in 2025 in Hanoi. At these events, the Center organized a common booth of Can Tho City to introduce products, develop markets, connect supply and demand, and promote on-site exports of key products and OCOP products of Can Tho.
In addition to direct trade connection activities, the Center also practices trade connection through supporting businesses in applying digital platforms, especially large, reputable platforms with high market and partner connection effects such as Alibaba, Tiktok,...
To support people in consuming durian during the peak harvest season when durian exports are facing many difficulties, in early June, Hai Phong City held a conference to promote trade and connect agricultural product consumption between Hai Phong City and Can Tho City. In just a short time, with the efforts of the Industry and Trade Department of the two localities, on June 11, 400kg of vacuum-packed Ri 6 durian (in an order of 2 tons) from Can Tho City was transported by air to Hai Phong City for consumption. On the very first day, at the event of the Can Tho durian product connection and consumption festival held at Aeon Mall Hai Phong supermarket, the product was positively received by consumers.
In recent times, trade promotion activities between the two cities have had many positive results. Many enterprises in Hai Phong have been playing an important role in bringing Can Tho agricultural products to the Northern market and exporting, typically Minh Khai Trading Joint Stock Company, Duong Minh Import-Export Joint Stock Company are units that regularly import and distribute seasonal fruits, processed agricultural products, rice and processed seafood products such as red tilapia, snakehead fish, eel, striped catfish, frog, basa fish, catfish, jellyfish, shrimp, field crab, etc. Along with that, many other typical products of Can Tho City such as rice, rice paper, etc. are also available at the supermarket system in Hai Phong, contributing to expanding the market share for goods from the Southwest region in the Northern Coastal region.
Set up distribution channels
With the motto of using domestic sources of supply, at the GO! Big C supermarket system, domestically produced goods are always the top priority. Throughout the year, purchasing staff of the GO!, Big C supermarket system (under Central Retail Vietnam) have proactively sought out local suppliers to bring regional products and specialties to consumers nationwide. In addition, Central Retail Vietnam also joins hands with Vietnamese farmers to support the consumption of Vietnamese agricultural products, especially those that are "oversupplied" or difficult to export. At the supermarket system of Central Retail Vietnam, there are also booths introducing Vietnamese OCOP products.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Communications Director of Central Retail Group, said that Central Retail wishes to fulfill its commitment to “Contribute to the prosperity of Vietnam and improve the quality of life of Vietnamese people”, so the group always strives to search for and expand more suppliers in localities to bring regional products and specialties to consumers nationwide. In particular, promoting the consumption and promotion of OCOP products is a top priority.
Along with the development of system scale and product diversity, LOTTE Mart system actively implements programs to support OCOP products. LOTTE Mart has dedicated an area in the supermarket to display and sell OCOP products, trading in about 100 OCOP items, helping consumers easily access and shop. At the same time, the unit also actively participates in promotional activities, introducing OCOP products to consumers, such as promotions and events.
The supermarket systems Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food... belonging to the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) currently trade more than 500 OCOP products including items from cooperatives nationwide. OCOP products traded at Saigon Co.op's retail system meet 3-4 star standards. Some OCOP products are also selected and developed into private label products under the Co.op brand. Furthermore, Co.opmart and Co.opXtra always support and prioritize the most prime locations in the supermarket for OCOP products, with signboards, attractive promotions... so that products can easily reach consumers. According to Saigon Co.op, the rapid growth of OCOP products in terms of variety in its affiliated retail system is the realization of the process of connecting trade between Saigon Co.op and key economic regions across the country.
Mr. Vo Tran Ngoc, Sales Director of Saigon Co.op, said: “Saigon Co.op is a pioneer in making efforts to deploy and realize the One Commune One Product program (OCOP program) for the period 2021-2025 approved by the Government with a focus on developing the rural economy in the direction of promoting internal resources and increasing value, contributing to the development of the rural economy and increasing income for farmers”.
The recognition and star-rating of OCOP products is a strict process in terms of standards, criteria, and requirements. However, there have been incidents in some places where OCOP products after being recognized have decreased in quality and required criteria. Therefore, according to experts, along with support from authorities at all levels and distributors, OCOP entities need to ensure the quality of OCOP products that have been awarded stars. Only then will the products stand firm in the market.
