Informing Tuoi Tre Online on July 8, a representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam (now Da Nang) said that before the time Da Nang and Quang Nam merged, based on opinions from My Son, Quang Nam had sent a document to the central government requesting permission to organize archaeological excavations in My Son.

Specifically: in the official dispatch sent on June 16, the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board requested that superior agencies allow archaeological exploration and excavation of the land area between tower K and the central tower group of the My Son temple complex.

These two locations are part of the "Excavation and research of architectural archaeology of the road leading to My Son temple complex" package currently being implemented.

Regarding the reason for the proposed excavation, the authorities said that the My Son temple complex is located in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains, in Duy Phu commune (now part of Da Nang city).

This is where more than 70 temples and towers are kept along with more than 30 inscriptions dating from the 7th to 13th centuries. The above documents are the best evidence to study the development of Cham culture and art.

In December 1999, UNESCO recognized My Son relic site as a World Cultural Heritage.

Up to now, many archaeological research, exploration and excavation campaigns have been carried out at My Son temple complex.

Notably, in two collaborative research sessions between the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board and the Institute of Archaeology in June 2023 and March 2025, the units explored and excavated 440 square meters at the location east of Tower K.

Here, the delegation discovered and clarified the architectural remains of a ceremonial road leading from tower K to the east towards tower areas E - F.

"The architecture of the road leading to My Son is a new discovery of traces of architectural works never known in My Son in the history of the relic's existence.

The above discovery also raises the issue of the need to continue archaeological research on the system of architectural ruins of the road in the area around Tower K, to clarify the presence of the royal road to My Son of the ancient Cham people," the document of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam (old) stated.

Scientists estimate the age of the relics from the 7th to 13th centuries.

The purpose of the exploration and excavation that the units are proposing is to collect field scientific documents to determine the architectural plan of the access road and related architectures leading to My Son, contributing to identifying the overall plan of the My Son relic site in the history of Cham culture.

From there, it serves as a basis for preserving and promoting the value of relics according to the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage.

The Institute of Archaeology and the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board will coordinate the exploration and excavation. The exploration and excavation area is 770m2 .

Currently, the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board is promoting procedures and preparing necessary conditions to begin excavation.
