Pepper prices are in the process of finding a new stable price level.
Domestic pepper prices have ended a 7-day streak of consecutive price increases as they unexpectedly fell in the past 2 days. The main reason is believed to be profit-taking pressure from farmers and traders after a long series of price increases.
As pepper prices approached the threshold of 150,000 VND/kg in recent days, many producers took advantage of the high prices to sell.
The simultaneous selling by many farmers has caused a sharp increase in short-term supply, thereby creating pressure on domestic pepper prices. This is a natural market reaction when producers want to optimize profits from rare high prices.
However, experts say this adjustment is short-term. The reason is that the supply among the people is no longer as abundant as in previous months, and the main harvest output is also gradually depleting. This shows that the actual supply is still in a state of scarcity.
In the medium and long term, when global consumer demand recovers, especially in major markets such as the US, EU and the Middle East, pepper prices are forecast to return to an upward trend. They may even exceed VND150,000/kg if supporting factors appear simultaneously.
International trade factors are also affecting market sentiment. Although Vietnam and some major partners such as the US and China have recorded positive signals in agricultural trade recently, pepper export orders have not shown clear signs of a breakthrough in early July.
The global market also fluctuated as pepper prices in Indonesia and Brazil fluctuated, putting additional pressure on domestic pepper prices. This fluctuation shows that the global market is in the process of searching for a new stable price level.
