The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (USA) witnessed a dramatic and emotional moment on the night of July 5, when the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Bayern Munich was interrupted by a serious injury to midfielder Jamal Musiala.
The incident occurred towards the end of the first half, when Musiala, in an attempt to challenge for the ball, collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Bayern youngster charged into the penalty area as the ball was headed towards Donnarumma, who was being shielded by defender Willian Pacho. The collision caused Musiala to suffer a horrific sprain to his left ankle.

The images that followed were truly shocking as Musiala writhed in pain on the pitch, while the medical team quickly arrived to provide first aid. However, it was Donnarumma's reaction that moved thousands of spectators in the stadium and fans watching on television. Realizing the severity of the injury caused by the unwanted collision, the Italian goalkeeper burst into tears on the pitch, expressing his extreme pain.
The scene not only had a profound impact on the players on the pitch, but also brought the entire stadium into silence, showing respect and concern for the injured player. Musiala’s pain and Donnarumma’s tears painted an emotional picture of the human side of football, where empathy transcends the antagonistic nature of the game.

There is currently no official medical information on Musiala's condition, but his pained expressions suggest the injury could be serious. Without Musiala on the pitch, Bayern Munich struggled in the second half. Vincent Kompany's team lost 0-2 despite finishing the match with two more players on the pitch.
Manager Kompany said he could not hide his anger in the dressing room at half-time, but the focus of the fury was not the performance of his players, but the injury to Jamal Musiala just before the half-time whistle.
“I have rarely been so angry at half-time, not with the players. I know there are more important things in life, but for these guys it is their life. Someone like Musiala lives for this. He has just come back from an injury and now this happens. You feel helpless. My blood is still boiling right now, not because of the result but because of what has happened to someone who loves football,” Kompany said.
