On July 9, to ensure the need for blood for emergency and treatment during the summer, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion called on people with good health conditions to arrange time to donate blood, joining hands for the lives of patients.
During July and August 2025, the National Blood Center and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion are expected to need a total of 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the Northern region.
Associate Professor Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, shared that the summer always has fluctuations in the source of blood donors for many reasons: blood donors are on summer vacation or traveling with their families, students return to their hometowns, etc. Blood donors tend to decrease in the summer, but medical treatment cannot stop, and many cases even need more blood, such as children with congenital hemolytic anemia who need blood transfusions to stabilize their health and prepare for the new school year.
Mr. Thanh especially called out: “Blood is a 'special product' for treating patients, it cannot be preserved for a long time, there is no substitute product, so it must be donated regularly and continuously. I urgently want to call on all blood donors who are in good health to donate blood many times, to donate blood this summer because 'every drop of blood given - a life remains'.”
Emphasizing the need for blood and the role of blood donors during the summer, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion calls on the whole society to join hands and be ready to go to blood donation points to donate, to give faith and life to help patients overcome difficulties.

The Institute has continuously mobilized blood donors in recent times, inviting them to the Institute, fixed blood donation points or to agencies and businesses that organize blood donations. At the same time, it has also worked with units to supplement blood donation schedules, helping people have more opportunities to donate blood.
Many agencies and units have paid attention and actively organized blood donation, responding to the campaign "Red Summer Blood Drops" launched by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, especially with the participation of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation at all levels, the Vietnam Medical Trade Union, the Government Youth Union...
However, to ensure timely and effective blood needs for emergency and treatment, the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion still needs an additional 30,000 units of blood, of which about 15,000 units of blood type O alone are needed.
Previously, on June 20, 2025, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, signed an official dispatch on ensuring the maintenance of voluntary blood donation mobilization.
The Deputy Minister of Health requested the Steering Committees for Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization of provinces and cities to coordinate with the Department of Health to report and advise the People's Committees to strengthen the Steering Committees for Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization at all levels; continue to maintain the organization of voluntary blood donation mobilization according to the targets of blood mobilization and reception in 2025.
In addition, the units proactively coordinate with blood receiving facilities to mobilize agencies, units, businesses, and schools in the area to organize blood donation sessions and maintain voluntary blood donation schedules according to plan./.
