With advantages in natural conditions, climate and diverse ecosystems, Dong Thap has great potential in developing agriculture and regional specialty products. In recent years, the province has focused on implementing the OCOP Program in conjunction with exploiting the advantages of available raw material areas, forming a rich and diverse product chain and increasingly affirming its position in the market.
EXPLOIT LOCAL ADVANTAGES
Currently, Dong Thap has hundreds of products that meet OCOP standards from 3 to 5 stars; in which, there are many outstanding products with strong brands such as: Products from bird's nest of Tri Son Trading and Service Company Limited, VD20 Go Cong specialty rice of HK Trading Company Limited, products from Thien An Cordyceps, Vinh Phat soursop tea achieving OCOP 5 stars, pure cocoa powder and roasted pure cocoa beans of Xuan Ron Cho Gao Cocoa Company Limited achieving OCOP 5 stars, products from lotus - a typical symbol of Dong Thap; and products from fruits such as: Hoa Loc mango, Tan Phuoc pineapple, durian, green-skinned grapefruit, dragon fruit, sapodilla, melon...
Radish products of Ms. Huynh Thi Thanh Van's family have created prestige and quality. |
In addition, deeply processed products such as pineapple candy, sweet and sour radish, whole salted white radish and salted radish (Tran Thi Ngoc Ngan facility); products from goat milk, bird's nest, shrimp paste... have also become typical products, contributing to diversifying the province's OCOP product line, increasing the value of agricultural products, extending the preservation time and making it convenient for modern consumption.

A notable point in the implementation of OCOP in Dong Thap is the close connection between production - processing - consumption and brand development. Many enterprises, cooperatives and production households have boldly invested in modern technology, developing products in the direction of organic, clean, safe and transparent origin.
From the practice in Dong Thap, it can be affirmed that OCOP is not only a brand, but also an expectation and a long-term solution for a modern, humane agriculture, with farmers as the center and local products as the core. |
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, up to now, the whole province has 1,002 OCOP products recognized with 3 stars or more, coming from 448 producers. Of which, 4 products are recognized with 5 stars at the national level, 199 products with 4 stars and 799 products with 3 stars. The richness is not only reflected in quantity, but also in the structure of the product lines.
In addition to key agricultural products such as fruits (mango, durian, dragon fruit, custard apple, pineapple, etc.), lotus products (lotus tea, lotus milk, dried lotus, etc.), seafood, ornamental flowers, the OCOP Program in Dong Thap also extends to food product groups (rice, confectionery, spring rolls, herbs, beverages), handicrafts, products from traditional craft villages, agricultural tourism products and experiences, etc.
The merger between Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces not only contributes to gathering the quintessence of local products, but also clearly affirms the advantages of agriculture, culture and tourism of the new Dong Thap province after the merger, creating a rich OCOP portfolio with great potential for in-depth development and reaching out to the international market.
IMPROVING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND DEVELOPING RURAL ECONOMY
In fact, many producers have known how to take advantage of the OCOP Program to improve their products, thereby expanding the consumption market and developing sustainably. A typical example is Bac My Thuan Production - Trade - Service Company Limited (An Huu Commune, Dong Thap Province) with dried Hoa Loc mango products.

Not stopping at traditional fresh products, the company invested in modern drying lines, creating dried products without preservatives, preserving the natural flavor. Thanks to the orientation of producing clean, quality food, the company's products were quickly accepted by the market, contributing to bringing Hoa Loc mango closer to the high-end market.
Meanwhile, Dong Nghi Agricultural Cooperative (Long Hung Commune, Dong Thap Province) is one of the pioneers in developing organic and modern products from goat milk and durian. By June 2025, the Cooperative had 14/15 products achieving 4-star OCOP, mainly freeze-dried products that are convenient and safe for users and are being favored by tourists to buy as gifts and use during their trips.
Ms. Le Khac Dong Nghi, Director of the Cooperative, said: “OCOP is not just a certification, but a guarantee of product quality. In the context of rampant counterfeit and fake goods, OCOP products are the basis for consumers to feel secure in their choices.”
In addition, the cooperative proactively invested in a goat farm combined with agricultural tourism, serving visitors for free, while introducing and selling products on site. The agricultural tourism model, production associated with experience, has clearly shown its effectiveness when the number of visitors increases, the products are more widely known, revenue is stable, and jobs are created for members.
The cooperative plans to launch an educational tour “Dong Thap students travel to Dong Thap agriculture”, to help students better understand clean agricultural production, experience the actual milking process, and enjoy organic products right at the production site.
Another typical example is the Go - Thanh Van Radish production facility (Son Qui commune, Dong Thap province) of Ms. Huynh Thi Thanh Van's family. With more than 30 years of experience in radish processing, from a household model, in 2017, Ms. Van officially established the facility, with 2 main products: radish pickled in soy sauce and pickled radish.
Since these two products were recognized as OCOP, her production facility has been increasingly trusted and supported by consumers, resulting in a revenue increase of 10% - 20% compared to before. Not only that, the products of Ms. Van's family facility have expanded their market to a number of supermarkets in and outside the province; at the same time, creating stable jobs for 10 workers, with an average salary of over 5 million VND/person/month, contributing to improving the lives of local people.
The OCOP program in Dong Thap not only creates a breakthrough in developing typical agricultural products, but also contributes to promoting the restructuring of the rural economy, increasing people's income and gradually forming sustainable agricultural value chains.
For the program to continue to be effective in the long term, businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities need stronger support in terms of investment capital, science and technology, packaging design, labels, etc., and especially trade promotion and market connection. In addition, there needs to be more flexible mechanisms and policies to support the construction of concentrated raw material areas, human resource training, and management capacity enhancement for OCOP entities.
It can be seen that the OCOP Program is the right direction, not only helping local agricultural products affirm their position in the market, but also contributing to preserving regional cultural values, building a civilized new rural image, comprehensive and sustainable development.
