Economic breakthrough before great opportunity

Thai Nguyen, a land rich in revolutionary traditions, has long held the position of political, economic, cultural and social center of the Northern midlands and mountainous region. In recent years, especially in the period of 2020-2025, the province has made a strong breakthrough, rising to become a bright spot of growth in the region and the whole country.

Economic breakthrough, modern structure

In the period of 2020-2025, despite being affected by fluctuations in the world and domestic economy, especially the COVID-19 pandemic, Thai Nguyen still maintained positive growth momentum. The average GRDP growth rate in 2021-2025 reached about 7.3%/year, exceeding the set target.

By 2025, the province's GRDP is estimated to reach 202,925 trillion VND, 1.6 times higher than in 2020, putting Thai Nguyen in the group of provinces with average growth rates nationwide.

One of the outstanding achievements of Thai Nguyen is the process of economic restructuring towards modernity and sustainability. Industry and construction currently account for more than 60% of the GRDP structure; the service sector accounts for about 25%; the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector remains at over 10%.

Industry continues to be the main growth driver, especially with the outstanding contribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises, typically Samsung Group and its ecosystem of satellite enterprises.

In the period of 2020-2025, Thai Nguyen agriculture will be restructured towards commodity production, high technology application, and ecological agricultural development associated with value chains.

The province has strongly shifted from "agricultural production" to "agricultural economy", focusing on high technology, digital transformation and increasing the value of key agricultural products. Notably, tea trees: with nearly 24,000 hectares (after merger), accounting for 22% of the country's tea area, of which over 45% of the area is produced according to VietGAP, organic and high technology. In 2024 alone, the value of the tea industry will reach about 13,800 billion VND.

The service and trade sector has many positive changes, with synchronous investment in logistics infrastructure, e-commerce and modern retail systems, thereby improving consumption quality and increasing the competitiveness of the domestic market.

Attracting investment, lever for sustainable development

Leaders of provincial departments and branches regularly grasp the operating situation to promptly remove difficulties for businesses.

Thai Nguyen is currently among the leading localities in the country in attracting investment in the Northern midland and mountainous region.

In the 2021-2025 period, the total social investment capital is estimated at 374 trillion VND, of which FDI capital accounts for a large proportion and maintains stable growth. By 2025, the province will have nearly 200 valid FDI projects with a total registered capital of more than 10 billion USD, mainly in the fields of electronics industry, supporting industry, high technology and manufacturing.

The system of industrial parks and industrial clusters is planned to be modern, expanding in the direction of green - smart - connection. Industrial parks such as Yen Binh, Song Cong I, II, Diem Thuy are becoming the driving force for the development of the Northern industrial region.

Along with attracting investment, Thai Nguyen focuses on improving the business environment and enhancing the provincial competitiveness index (PCI). The province has accelerated the reduction of administrative procedure processing time, built e-government, and digitized the investment licensing process, thereby creating favorable conditions for businesses to operate and expand production.

Economic development and investment attraction are inseparable from infrastructure. During the past term, Thai Nguyen has effectively mobilized resources to invest in building a synchronous, modern, and highly connected socio-economic infrastructure system.

Transport infrastructure is focused on with many strategic routes completed such as Thai Nguyen - Bac Giang - Vinh Phuc route, Ring Road V of Hanoi Capital Region, opening up new development space, enhancing economic connectivity and reducing logistics costs. In Bac Kan (before the merger), many key projects were implemented, such as the Bac Kan - Ba Be Lake route connecting Na Hang (Tuyen Quang), the new National Highway 3 section Cho Moi - Bac Kan.

These projects enhance regional connectivity and create momentum for tourism, trade and service development.

Urban infrastructure and industrial zones continue to be expanded and modernized. Thai Nguyen is oriented to develop into a smart city, a green city and an economic, scientific and educational center of the midland region.

Green growth associated with digital transformation

Thai Nguyen is proactively shifting from breadth to depth growth, taking science, technology and innovation as key driving forces. The province is vigorously implementing digital transformation solutions, building digital government, digital society and especially digital economy, creating a foundation for sustainable development.

Along with that, Thai Nguyen is implementing a green growth plan for the 2021-2030 period, prioritizing clean technology projects and environmentally friendly production in industrial parks.

Digital transformation in industrial production helps businesses improve productivity, optimize costs and reduce emissions. Green economy and circular economy are also integrated into industrial park development planning, contributing to saving resources and protecting the environment.

Thai Nguyen has synchronously implemented solutions for socio-economic development associated with restructuring the apparatus and promoting post-merger potential. In the coming time, the province is determined to continue promoting administrative reform, improving planning quality, selectively attracting investment; sustainably developing key economic sectors; encouraging start-ups and innovation; and at the same time forming dynamic economic zones oriented towards green growth and comprehensive digital transformation.

Facing new opportunities, Thai Nguyen aims for economic growth of 10.5% or more in 2025 and the following years.

With a breakthrough strategy in investment, digital transformation, green economy and administrative reform, the province is determined to create a favorable environment for businesses. Not only is it an industrial - high-tech center, Thai Nguyen also aims to become a model of modern, sustainable and digital growth.
