“80 years of glorious country”: Connecting history with the public through digital technology

On August 29, towards the important anniversary of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 (1945 - 2025), Nhan Dan Newspaper organized a ceremony to introduce special publications and an interactive exhibition "80 years of glorious country - The Road to Independence".

The series of activities is organized with the hope of bringing to the public an event that is both solemn and intimate, harmoniously combining historical values, cultural experiences and modern technology applications. This is an opportunity to review the glorious 80-year journey of the nation, pay tribute to previous generations, and at the same time arouse the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country in the new era.

The success of the recent issues and special publications commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on April 30, 2025 and the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press on June 21, 2025 is a testament to the companionship and trust of readers nationwide.

The special issue 2/9 is structured into 5 main parts, developed along the historical - present - future axis, reflecting the nation's journey of building and defending the country, affirming the immortal historical value of the August Revolution and National Day 2/9, summarizing the achievements of 80 years of nation building, and affirming Vietnam's aspiration to reach the new era. The publication is a harmonious combination of political, historical and humanistic content, combining cultural - artistic materials with valuable documentary images, creating a publication that is both valuable in history and inspirational.

The special supplement 2/9 consists of two parts: The first part recreates the image of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square and prints the entire Declaration of Independence - the immortal document affirming the independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people. The second part introduces 80 outstanding events in the past 80 years in the fields of politics , economics, society, foreign affairs, culture... The art design was done by artist Kim Duan using hand-drawing techniques, combining political commentary with visual arts, aiming to arouse national pride and foster patriotism in generations, especially the young generation.

Sharing about the supplement, Mr. Le Quoc Minh said: What is special is that on this supplement, readers can find many "digital gifts" that take users "through time" back to the historical moment of September 2, exactly 80 years ago, including a virtual reality experience at Ba Dinh Square, a 3D model of the Independence Monument in the form of augmented reality (AR) that allows users to "check-in" with the monument in any space, and experience listening to the Declaration of Independence on Spotify and on Tiktok. These are products aimed at reaching the young audience, those who are eager to hear the heroic historical stories of their ancestors through digital experiences that are in line with the trends of the technology era.

As the person in charge of drawing and designing this supplement, artist Kim Duan shared: "The special point of the special supplement September 2 is how to depict the image of President Ho Chi Minh that is both true to history and similar to the thoughts and imagination of the Vietnamese people. In terms of general design, the images are all suggestive, creating a harmonious whole for the supplement launched on this special occasion."

The exhibition uses technology to enhance the visitor experience.

In addition to the two digital physical publications, Nhan Dan Newspaper also launched two special pages at the addresses quockhanh.nhandan.vn and congan.nhandan.vn. The special page celebrating the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a data journalism channel depicting the historical flow of the country since the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam, through the era of national independence and freedom, the era of innovation and development, and now entering the era of national growth.

In parallel with the publication, Nhan Dan Newspaper, in collaboration with related units, organized an interactive exhibition to bring the public closer to history through multi-sensory experiences. The event took place from August 29 to September 3 at Nhan Dan Newspaper headquarters, 71 Hang Trong, Hanoi, facing Hoan Kiem Lake.

The exhibition's highlights include: "The Road to Independence", recreating the revolutionary flow from 1930 to 1945 with 8 important milestones, illustrated with documentary images, 3D reliefs, LED lights and VR360 technology; "Independence Flagpole", a model of the Ba Dinh Square - where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, combined with a VR360 screen for the public to relive the heroic atmosphere of September 2, 1945;

"Writing letters to the Fatherland", a quiet space where visitors can handwrite their thoughts, express their patriotism and aspirations for development; the letters will be preserved as part of the community's memories; "80 years of glorious country" exhibition cluster, systematizing the milestones from 1930-2025, from the birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the aspiration of a developed nation in the mid-21st century; "AR Check-in - instant souvenir photos", applying augmented reality technology with a 3D map of Vietnam, creating a youthful, modern highlight, connecting history with today's generation.
