In its first season, the Incubator has reaped sweet fruits, with projects receiving awards from the American Film Institute and the French Embassy, promising to form new cinematic works.

The special opening performance of the Talent Incubator class caused a big surprise at the closing ceremony and award ceremony of the Talent Incubator and Project Incubator programs, even with only applause, shouts and choreography.

The performance of the 3rd batch of students of the Talent Incubation class during a week of hard training made the class leader, actress Lydia Park, the Basic Acting class advisor, exclaim: "To me, all 25 students are Best Students."

"To me, actors are a reflection of the times. And I have felt that even though times have changed and emotions have changed, the passion for acting of the students remains steadfast. I believe that this source of energy will help light up the future of Vietnamese cinema," said Lydia.

Producer Tran Bich Ngoc, the "producer" of the Talent Incubator and Project Incubator, said that this year, within the framework of a rather large-scale Film Festival like the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, the Organizing Committee has come up with the idea of the Project Incubator and Talent Incubator program, including 3 main activities: Master Class by Mr. Kang Je Kyu, Talent Incubation class starting from the first season of DANAFF, and Project Incubator, also known as Project Market.

The atmosphere of exchange is lively in the classroom.

With the DANAFF Tallent initiative, the Organizing Committee wants to discover, support and accompany young talents of Asian, regional and Vietnamese cinema. Because to maintain a long-term development of DANAFF, it is necessary to pay attention to the young generation, especially the young generation in cinema who really need an environment to connect and exchange so that they can collide with each other.

Young filmmakers learn from their teachers and from their peers.

“In the classroom, it is not only important to listen to teachers' feedback or compete for awards, but also to have a creative space, an environment where young filmmakers can connect with each other and from there, collaborative production relationships can emerge, and filmmaking can be combined. All of these things are very important for cinema,” emphasized producer Tran Bich Ngoc.

Therefore, within the framework of the Film Festival, creating a space for everyone to work together on cinema, to breathe in the cinematic atmosphere, to talk about cinema, and to question each other on a project, according to Ms. Bich Ngoc, is very meaningful.

“The Young Theorist's Club” won the MYLAB Project Award.

This year's incubator has two sections: one for young Asian filmmakers, and one for all genres of young Vietnamese filmmakers. The winning or impressive projects will then be shown in theaters, reaching a wider audience.

With the motto of finding young talents that have not yet appeared, the Organizing Committee has criteria such as projects that have not participated in too many film festivals, or projects with potential but have not had the opportunity to show themselves. This "panning for gold" process takes more effort and is more risky, but when found, it is the joy of the Organizing Committee.

Genre Project Award – $5,000 was awarded to the project “Flying Cows”.

Sharing about the quality of the projects at the first season of the Incubator, producer Tran Bich Ngoc said that in the Asian project market area, there are some filmmakers who are relatively experienced, some have participated in the Busan Film Festival and won awards, some have won the best film award at another international film festival, this film is also shown in the Asian Cinema Panorama program. The rest, most of the filmmakers are starting their projects for the first time.

“The incubator is a mix of people with a little bit of experience, from their first film to their second, or from short films to feature films. Both of these stages are very fragile for filmmakers, requiring support, and this is what the Organizing Committee wants to find,” Tran Bich Ngoc shared.

She also added that within the framework of the Incubator, the teachers read the projects of young Vietnamese filmmakers and commented that there were some quite interesting projects and that there was a possibility that the teachers would participate in some of the projects.

Project Incubator Awards:

- MYLAB Award for Arthouse project - 3-month mentorship award under MYLAB's guidance: "The Young Theorist's Club" (Director Dam Quang Trung, producer Vu Hoang Trieu, co-producer UK).

- Genre Project Award – 5,000 USD from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA): “Flying Cows” (director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat, producer Nguyen Huu Thi Tuong Vi).

- Arthouse Project Award presented by the French Embassy, 8,000 euros prize from CNC's Cinémas du Monde: “Ghost of the Currents” (director Itt Patiparn Boontarig, co-director Kalil Pitsuwan, producer Napakarn Boontarig)

The Project Incubator is a very new activity, located in a young film festival like DANAFF, but the opportunities are very open to projects of young filmmakers. Along with the award-winning projects, the Incubator also received the attention of many veteran film experts, such as Ms. Urmila Venugopalan, President of the Motion Picture Association of America and Executive Director of the Asia -Pacific region (APAC); Mr. Kim Dong Ho, founder of the Busan International Film Festival; Professor, producer Kim Seonah - President of Women in Film Korean..., who came to attend and witness the award-winning projects. This is rare for a very new event like the Incubator of DANAFF.

The project “Ghost of the Currents” was awarded the French Embassy Arthouse Project Prize.

And as director Phan Dang Di said about the projects that have not been awarded: "For projects that have not won awards, we do not give you awards but give you responsibility and pressure to continue to move your project forward. Even though you do not receive an award today, you will receive an award on a big stage in Vietnam and around the world . That is the most important thing." That is why the Incubator becomes an open door for young filmmakers.
