On July 8, at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association organized a book launch program "Ho Chi Minh City Cai Luong Theater in the period 1975-2025." This is a typical cultural project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The book consists of 4 parts: "Ho Chi Minh City's reformed theater looks back on a journey," "Staging and performance art," "Creative elements in reformed theater," "Artists and valuable lessons in acting."

This is not only a valuable document but also a work of academic and artistic value, gathering more than 50 articles by writers specializing in the fields of research, criticism, and performing arts.

At the launch, artists and researchers share their experiences to help generations of artists and the public who love reformed opera have a more comprehensive and profound view of the journey of this unique reformed opera genre, closely associated with the spiritual life of the people of the South.

People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, said that although Cai Luong theater - an art form that is over 100 years old - cannot be called eternal, it is completely capable of accompanying time if preserved and developed in the right direction.

Previously, the Cai Luong theater has produced works marking the 20-year and 50-year milestones. This work is a gift to celebrate the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

The book launch aims to help the public better understand the past journey of the reformed theater, and at the same time visualize the future direction: "A journey that both inherits tradition and develops in the new era."

As someone who has been involved with Cai Luong for many years, Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong, a theater researcher, could not help but be moved when witnessing the widespread development of Cai Luong across the country with many plays being staged grandly and elaborately.

According to her, Cai Luong is a special art form, inherited from Hat Boi and Drama, harmonizing stillness and movement - a blend that few other art forms can fully achieve.

Therefore, in the context of many older artists and milestones that are easily forgotten, the book was born as a tribute; at the same time, it is a bridge for today's and future generations to continue to understand, inherit and develop the art of Cai Luong.

Likewise, Associate Professor-PhD Huynh Quoc Thang, a researcher of folk culture and traditional theater, believes that Cai Luong is a harmonious combination of modern and traditional elements; absorbing the spirit of innovation and preserving long-standing cultural values.

That creates the uniqueness of Cai Luong in the artistic life of Vietnam. The implementation and introduction of this book aims to record the development journey, demonstrating the responsibility to preserve cultural heritage, in which Cai Luong, with its strong Southern identity, deserves to be honored and passed on to future generations./.
