1.16 million candidates took the 2025 high school graduation exam on the morning of June 26, the first exam following two programs, with literature materials outside of the textbook, a record number of elective subjects and exam codes.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training , the total number of candidates registered for the high school graduation exam in 2025 is more than 1.16 million (of which, nearly 25,000 students will take the exam under the 2006 General Education Program; more than 1.13 million students will take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program).
As a candidate taking the free exam of the Literature exam of the 2006 General Education Program, commenting on this morning's exam, Nguyen Thi Phuong, from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, said that this morning's exam was basic and familiar, so she did quite well. The exam had question 4 of the argumentative section, which is suitable for young people when students discuss the meaning of life. "I think I will definitely get 7 and 8 points. I hope to do well on the Math exam this afternoon. I hope to get a good result so that I can apply for admission to the art school block this year" - Phuong shared.

Literature exam according to old program: There will be candidates who get 9.5 points
Commenting on the Literature exam according to the old program, Master Dinh Thi Thuy said that in the reading comprehension section, the exam used materials outside the textbook (the poem Nep nghia by poet Nguyen Duc Mau). The materials are thoughtful, awakening the reader's self-reflection.

This teacher further emphasized that students need to pay attention to exploiting artistic elements to clarify the mood and beauty of the character's soul. From there, draw out the message, realistic value, humanistic value, and art of the excerpt, the work, and the author's talent.
It can be said that literary argumentative essays do not challenge or puzzle students. What is important is that they develop a complete system of ideas; exploit artistic elements associated with genre characteristics; and write with sincere and subtle emotions.
“With the 2025 Literature exam for students studying the 2006 program, students will complete the task and will certainly have truly convincing essays that touch the judges’ emotions. And there are candidates who scored 9.5 in this subject,” Ms. Thuy emphasized.
