The aptitude test of Hanoi University of Architecture took place on July 1. In which, the art drawing subject 2 was tested in the afternoon, with the exam paper considered to be a "drawing test that looks like a literature test" which is very new and is causing a stir in public opinion.
Specifically, this exam is as follows:
"In the poem 'Walking in the middle of the fragrant road' by poet Huy Can there is a passage:
Village Road: Wildflowers with the Smell of Straw...
The one who walks with me on the fragrant road,
The heart is filled with a little imaginary flower scent.
The land is embroidered with sunlight, bamboo shade and then royal poinciana shade.
The curtain is gently lowered, keeping the feet from getting entangled for a long time:
Up high or down low?
I don't know - It's a bit overwhelming.
In the air... scent and color blend...

Commenting on this exam, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Minh, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, said: "This is a very new and unique exam when using images from a good poem to stimulate the candidates' imagination. And from a specific image in the poem, the exam requires candidates to demonstrate their ability to compose and create images. Candidates have the 'space' to be creative without being rambling because the exam has provided a clear range of data."
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Minh, poetry and painting are always close to each other, in poetry there is painting and in painting there is poetry. Therefore, with expertise in composition, this way of creating exam questions is very good and suitable to select candidates with the ability for the field of study that requires aesthetic talent, talent for space perception and composition.

Similarly, the former head of the training department of a university that recruits students for the architecture major in Ho Chi Minh City (new), also said that the 2025 art drawing exam of the Hanoi University of Architecture was quite interesting. "This way of asking questions stimulates the creativity and association of candidates. The exam is quite liberal, not only testing drawing skills but also requiring the ability to perceive beauty," the former head of the training department commented.
As a contestant who participated in the 2024 drawing talent contest and is currently a first-year graphic design student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Nguyen Bao Ngan shared: "Just reading the poem, I can already imagine the images, colors, and layouts that I will express. The image of 'sun-embroidered land' is very beautiful and allows contestants to freely create. I think contestants will definitely like this way of setting questions."
It is known that before, Hanoi University of Architecture also set questions in this direction. For example, in 2022, the aptitude test for color decoration composition, block H00 also presented some poetic ideas in the poem "Resurrection is coming" by journalist Nguyen Hong Vinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper. From there, candidates were required to draw a color decoration composition showing beautiful images of the country and people of Vietnam reviving after the Covid-19 pandemic.
