The two whale skeletons are between 250 and 300 years old. The larger skeleton is 22m long and is called “Dong Dinh Dai Vuong” by the locals. The smaller skeleton is 18m long and is called “Duc Ngu Nhi Vi Ton Than”. Each skeleton consists of 50 vertebrae, 28 ribs and the head. Since 2020, the Ly Son island government has been implementing a project to restore the two whale skeletons and build an exhibition house at Lang Tan.
According to Ly Son people, there are dozens of whale skeletons preserved on the island. However, only two skeletons of “Dong Dinh Dai Vuong” and “Duc Ngu Nhi Vi Ton Than” which have just been set as records are still intact and have been completely restored. Along with preservation and conservation, Ly Son people also maintain the whale worship, a beautiful feature in the culture of the people of the coastal village.
Lang Tan, where two whale skeletons are kept, is currently an attractive destination, attracting tourists on their journey to explore Ly Son./.
