The above activities will take place from July 4-8.
Vietnam has recently become a BRICS partner country. Vietnam wishes to make efforts to contribute, enhance the voice and role of developing countries, promote international solidarity, inclusive and comprehensive multilateralism in the spirit of respecting international law.
This also affirms Vietnam's consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations; being a friend, reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community.
Brazil, which holds the rotating BRICS presidency in 2025, sees Vietnam’s population of nearly 100 million and its dynamic economy as key factors in its admission.
“Vietnam stands out as an important partner in Asia. It shares the commitment of BRICS members and partners to promote a more just and inclusive international order. Vietnam’s efforts to promote South-South cooperation and sustainable development further strengthen the convergence of interests with the BRICS bloc,” the Brazilian statement said.
BRICS is a group of emerging economies, accounting for more than 40% of the world's population and about a quarter of the world's GDP. The group was founded in 2009 with four initial members: Brazil, Russia, India, and China. BRICS later added South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Vietnam becomes the 10th country to be recognized as a partner of the bloc, alongside Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
Located on two different continents, halfway around the world, Vietnam and Brazil have close friendship and cooperation.
Brazil is the first South American country with which Vietnam has established a strategic partnership (November 2024). This is the third time Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has visited Brazil, following visits in September 2023 and November 2024.
Last March, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also paid a state visit to Vietnam.
Brazil is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America - a market with great potential, especially in the context of Vietnam promoting the diversification of markets and supply sources.
