It is known that in April 2025, before the merger, Thai Nguyen completed early the task of supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the old area, with 1,974 households receiving support to build and repair houses, with a total cost of nearly 200 billion VND.
In Bac Kan province, before the merger, there were 4,651 households eligible for support to remove temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025, of which 3,922 households had started and completed housing support, reaching a rate of 84.3%. According to data available at the time of reporting, there were still over 700 households that had not started construction in 37 communes in mountainous, remote areas with difficult access and a large number of ethnic minorities.
The main reasons are the complex terrain and high mountains that make it difficult to transport materials, increasing prices; many poor households are unable to respond; community support is limited; some local authorities and households are not determined to eliminate temporary houses...
Therefore, with the determination to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the whole province, the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province organized an online conference across the province, connecting with 37 unfinished communes to review the causes and remove obstacles.
Online conference of the Steering Committee with 37 communes implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province
Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Thai Nguyen Province Trinh Viet Hung said: Right in the first days of operating the 2-level local government, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in the province was strengthened and supplemented and held a conference to deploy tasks, which demonstrated a high sense of responsibility before the Party and the people in leading and directing the implementation of the set goals. Determining that eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is not only an important political task, but also an "order from the heart", a noble humane act.
Although in the early days of operating the two-level local government, there are many tasks to be performed, with the responsibility to the Party, the people, and the entire political system of the province, members of the Steering Committee, Party committees, and local authorities must unite to excellently complete the assigned tasks, first of all, completing the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for policy beneficiaries and meritorious people before July 27, 2025 and completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households in the province before August 31, 2025.
Implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Secretary and the Steering Committee for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Thai Nguyen province, on July 5 and 6, Thai Nguyen province organized 16 working groups to inspect and urge the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for people with revolutionary contributions, martyrs' relatives, and poor households in the area.
Accordingly, in Thanh Mai commune - one of the highland communes with a large ethnic minority population, the commune currently has 347 poor households and 257 near-poor households. Through screening, there are 137 households in the commune that are subject to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses (126 new houses and 11 houses repaired). Up to this point, the locality has started construction on 114 houses, 48 houses have been completed, 23 houses have not started construction; there are 37 households with temporary and dilapidated houses that do not need to be built in 2025. Because some households in the support category are facing economic difficulties, lack of counterpart funds, while material prices are high; mountainous terrain makes it difficult to transport materials and floods have affected the progress of implementation.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nong Quang Nhat and the working delegation worked at Nam Cuong commune, inspecting the implementation of removing temporary and dilapidated houses on July 6.
Faced with the above situation, Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee Pham Hoang Son suggested that the commune urgently review, evaluate and prepare a comprehensive report on socio-economic development, national defense, security, Party building work; key tasks set out in the coming time, in which difficulties, obstacles and proposals and recommendations are presented to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and resolution. At the same time, proactively implement contents, programs and plans in preparing for organizing party congresses at all levels to ensure efficiency and quality. With 23 households subject to temporary and dilapidated houses being removed, the commune needs to propagate and mobilize to start construction before July 15, 2025, proactively use local resources and human resources to ensure the progress set by the province.
In Nam Cuong commune, according to statistics, there are 198 households living in temporary, dilapidated houses, of which 187 households have the need to build new or repair houses, the rest have not agreed to do so. Up to now, the commune has propagated and mobilized the construction and repair of 123 houses, and 64 households are continuing to be mobilized to do so. At the inspection, Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee Nong Quang Nhat highly appreciated the participation of Nam Cuong commune in implementing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses; requested the commune to promptly disburse support funds and continue to speed up the progress of projects so that people can soon stabilize their lives.
Thereby, it can be seen that, although after the province's merger, the implementation of the 2-level local government model is still full of work to be solved, Thai Nguyen province considers the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, policy families, and people as a top priority. The elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses not only contributes to improving people's lives but also motivates to further promote the tradition of mutual love and affection, building and consolidating the great national unity bloc. In particular, it also contributes significantly to the work of sustainable poverty reduction in the province in particular and the whole country in general./.
