Mass education - seen from the results of 10th grade high school entrance exams

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has just announced the results of 10th grade admissions at 85 public educational institutions for the 2025-2026 school year, with 30,000 students admitted through entrance exams and selection.

The parameters of benchmark scores and number of admitted students show a fairly comprehensive picture of secondaryeducation in the province.

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that public high schools in Western Dak Lak (former Dak Lak province) organize entrance exams for grade 10.

Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, 53 public high schools in the western part of Dak Lak have an enrollment target of more than 20,700 10th graders out of nearly 23,000 junior high school graduates. However, only 21,148 candidates took the exam and 20,163 candidates were admitted, which shows that the "competition" rate to enter the schools is low and the enrollment rate also does not meet the target.

The difference in benchmark scores between 50 public high schools is very large (except for 3 specialized schools), especially many schools have low benchmark scores but still have not recruited enough targets such as: Hai Ba Trung High School (Thien An ward) has the lowest benchmark score of 2.5 points/3 subjects but still lacks 3 targets; Krong Bong High School (Krong Bong commune) has the benchmark score for the first choice of 2.75 points/3 subjects, lacking 67 targets; Cao Ba Quat High School (Tan An ward) is also in the group with low benchmark scores with 3.75 points/3 subjects, passing the first choice and has recruited the second choice but is still lacking 17 targets...

For 32 public high schools in the East of Dak Lak (former Phu Yen province), after many years of organizing entrance exams, the 2025-2026 school year is the first year to organize entrance exams for grade 10 (except Luong Van Chanh Specialized High School still organizes entrance exams for grade 10).

"The enrollment results have recognized the bright spots, positive factors, and efforts of schools and teachers at the secondary level; at the same time, they also revealed the limitations and challenges in improving the quality of education. After implementing the Project to establish the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province on the basis of merging the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province (old) and the Department of Education and Training of Phu Yen province (old), the education sector continues to propose and implement solutions to overcome barriers to bring Dak Lak education to a new level in the era of national development" - Director of the Department of Education and Training .

According to the Department of Education and Training, in the 2025-2026 school year, 32 public high schools in Dong Dak Lak have enrolled 9,837 students into grade 10 of high school, reaching a rate of 98.12%. The remaining students will be transferred to vocational training or Duy Tan High School. Of the 31 public high schools implementing the admission method, the admission score for Nguyen Trai High School (Tuy Hoa Ward) and Chu Van An Middle and High School (Xuan Lanh Commune) is the highest with 32 points; Vo Van Kiet Middle and High School (Duc Binh Commune) and Nguyen Du High School (Song Hinh Commune) is the lowest with 22 points (admission score converted according to the training and learning results of each school year of middle school students).

The above results show that there is a difference in the quality of education between regions, educational institutions and the psychology of parents and students in choosing schools. This leads to many schools in disadvantaged areas or those that have not yet built a brand having difficulty recruiting students to the first grade.

According to the education sector, in the 2025-2026 school year, students of all grades and levels will study according to the 2018 General Education Program, so schools and teachers have proactively developed lesson plans in the direction of developing students' qualities and abilities.

Teachers must find ways to innovate teaching methods, create excitement for students and have interaction so that they are proactive in learning.

Many teachers believe that, depending on the students' abilities, teachers should choose teaching methods suitable for each subject; be flexible in testing and evaluating students; and create opportunities for students to learn effectively.

Mr. Do Dai Duy, Deputy Head of Physics Department, Le Loi High School (Dong Xuan Commune) shared that in order to help students interact and be proactive in learning, teachers will assign tasks to groups so that they can prepare new lessons for presentation in class. The knowledge that teachers assign to students must be selected within their ability; at the same time, create interest in learning through the creation of some simple electronic components related to physical phenomena mechanisms to apply the knowledge learned.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Phuong, Principal of Nguyen Hue High School No. 2 (Tuy Hoa Ward), improving the quality of education and reducing the gap between schools and regions requires synchronous coordination between schools, teachers, students and parents. Schools must aim at comprehensive education for students in terms of physical, intellectual and moral aspects; increase the application of information technology to create lively and attractive lessons; apply active teaching methods such as: cooperative learning, question and answer, discussion, encourage students to self-study and research...
