According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), pepper prices have shown signs of a slight recovery since the end of June as farmers and speculators are still holding onto their goods and are not in a hurry to sell them, expecting prices to recover better in the third and fourth quarters of this year. This hoarding is due to predictions that prices will increase sharply in the coming time, contributing to a reduction in immediate supply in the market.

Experts advise taking advantage of the current good prices to balance finances, while closely monitoring international market fluctuations and Vietnam's export policies in the third quarter to have appropriate sales strategies.
Vietnamese pepper price increased by 62.1% in the first 5 months of the year - Unprecedented record
In the world market, the rising US dollar and escalating armed conflicts in many regions have made many investors more cautious. Along with that, increasing logistics costs also create short-term pressure on pepper prices.
In the medium and long term, pepper supply from two major markets, Brazil and Indonesia, will impact the market. In Indonesia, the harvest is expected to start in July. Meanwhile, after the harvest in the eastern provinces, the next harvest in Espirito Santo and Para in Brazil will start in the middle of this year.
According to preliminary data from the Customs Department, in the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam mainly exported black pepper, accounting for 67.7% of the total volume and 64.4% of the total value, reaching 67.69 thousand tons, worth 444.76 million USD, down 15.6% in volume but up 36.8% in value over the same period in 2024.
In addition, ground white pepper exports decreased by 3.8% in volume, while ground black pepper and white pepper exports increased by 1.9% and 6.0% in volume, respectively, over the same period.
In terms of value, Vietnam's pepper export price increased sharply in the first 5 months of the year, causing the export value of all pepper varieties to increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, the export value of ground white pepper increased the most, up to 51.8%.
However, the growth rate of pepper export value has slowed down in recent months due to slow increase in pepper export prices, even decreasing in April and May compared to the previous month.
Black pepper is the most exported variety of Vietnam, so fluctuations in the volume and export price of this type will greatly affect the overall export situation of pepper.
The average export price of Vietnam's black pepper, after peaking at 6,685 USD/ton in March 2025, decreased again in April and May, down 0.6% and 2.7% respectively compared to the previous month.
In the first 5 months of the year, the average export price of Vietnam's black pepper reached 6,570 USD/ton, an increase of 62.1% over the same period in 2024.
In general, the domestic and international pepper markets are showing signs of slight recovery but are still heavily influenced by global economic and political factors, requiring producers and exporters to closely monitor to have appropriate strategies in the coming time.
