At the age of 25, while many young people are still looking for a stable career path, Tran Ho Duy Bao has chosen to start from the most familiar things. That is from trees, land and diligence. The model of growing rosemary and spices such as thyme and oregano that Bao is implementing is part of a program to support young people to start and establish businesses in the direction of innovation and creativity implemented by the local Youth Union.

On an area of 3 sao of land, Bao started growing rosemary, a plant with a pleasant aroma and many uses; at the same time, he developed two other popular spice varieties, thyme and oregano. These are all plants with high application value in cooking and health care. Starting with preparing the soil, choosing varieties, and testing care methods suitable for the local climate, Bao gradually formed a stable tree planting process. The rows of green trees, compact canopy, and light fragrance when touched are the result of a process of self-learning and gaining experience through each crop. Bao said: “At first, I only planted a few trial rows because I didn’t know if the soil was suitable. After the trees grew stably, I planned to expand and invest more in care. With the encouragement and guidance of the Ward Youth Union, I boldly pursued it long-term.”

Not only stopping at planting trees, Bao also focuses on harvesting, neatly tying, keeping the smell, keeping the freshness to provide for households who need to use spices in meals or display. For current consumption, it mainly depends on regular customers in the ward, a few small traders and direct orders. On average, each month, the model brings in an income of about 10 million VND, enough to maintain production costs, reinvestment and cover personal living expenses.

Notably, Bao's model also creates jobs for two other local union members. Simple but regular work such as taking care of plants, weeding, pruning, packaging... helps them earn more income and learn how to do practical agriculture in a compact but effective way. This is also one of the important goals that the ward union aims for when implementing models to support young people to start their own businesses locally, which is suitability, feasibility and spreading.

Bao said: “I think that if I do it alone, the model will only be at a moderate level. But when there are friends working together, sharing work and learning together, the model can be expanded. Thanks to that, the working spirit is more joyful and motivated. I think starting a business does not need to be big, just doing small things really well is enough to start.”

Currently, the Ward Youth Union is introducing Bao's model to some other members in the area for learning and reference. Some of them have visited the garden to visit the reality, exchange experiences in taking care of the trees and learn about the output. According to the Ward Youth Union's assessment, this is one of the typical models of a way of doing things that is suitable for the actual conditions of local youth. Although the model is not large, it has a clear direction, is connected and especially has a high potential for replication. Most importantly, the model does not depend too much on external factors, so it is very suitable for young people who want to start a business in their hometown.
