According to the Dalat Flower Association, Lam Dong province currently has about 10,908 hectares specializing in flower production, with an estimated output of 4.4 billion flower branches/year. In 2024 alone, Lam Dong's flower industry will export about 494 million branches, flowers, leaves, shoots, and seedlings, worth nearly 99 million USD. The main types of cut flowers currently grown by farmers include: chrysanthemums, roses, gladiolus, carnations, gerberas, anthuriums, lilies, phalaenopsis, gypsophila, cymbidiums, and dancers. In addition, some types of potted flowers occupy a small area and output but have great potential for development, such as potted chrysanthemums, cymbidiums, and tulips, with about 1,450 hectares.
Flower growing has brought a huge income to farming households, averaging about 1 billion VND/ha/year; income from high-tech flower growing in greenhouses alone reaches 3 billion VND/ha/year. It can be seen that, with an average annual growth rate of 10% in planting area and 15% in flower output, Lam Dong's flower growing industry is still developing and has great strengths compared to other regions in the country.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the province exported more than 142 million flower branches of all kinds; of which, the majority were cut flowers, fresh leaves and chrysanthemums. The export of fresh cut flowers brought in revenue of 42.62 million USD.
Mr. Lai The Hung - Vice President of Da Lat Flower Association said that flower production is one of the key industries in agricultural production, has great development potential, plays an important role in promoting the development of Lam Dong agriculture and creates differences and competitive advantages with other production areas in the country.
Lam Dong province has also established a suitable and effective logistics system to meet the domestic and foreign "supply - demand" market, creating rapid and sustainable growth, motivating flower producers and traders to invest in high technology in production and consumption of products, operating the flower industry value chain to integrate internationally and flexibly respond to climate and disease fluctuations.
Along with that, people and businesses constantly access the world's scientific and technological achievements, focusing on researching and applying domestic technology to improve the competitiveness of the flower industry.
In particular, for sustainable flower production, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has also approved the sustainable development strategy for the flower industry in Lam Dong province for the period 2024-2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, the specific goal by 2030 is that Lam Dong province will expand the scale of flower production areas, improve land use efficiency so that by 2030, the total flower output of the province will reach 5.4 billion branches and 0.5 billion flower pots of all kinds; the flower industry's production value will reach over 15,000 billion VND; the average harvest value will reach over 3.7 billion VND/ha; and flower export turnover will reach over 217 million USD.
At the same time, there will be at least 5 high-tech flower production areas recognized with a scale of over 2,500 hectares; forming a regional-scale tissue culture seed production industrial cluster with an output of over 120 million invitro seedlings/year. Putting into operation the Flower Trading Center and building 1-2 more logistics centers in a synchronous, professional and modern direction for the flower industry, reasonably linked to the orientation of production areas and transportation planning.
