According to information from Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), implementing Decision No. 1279/QD-BCt of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, from May 10, the official electricity price will be adjusted to increase by 4.8%/kWh, from VND 2,103.11/kWh (excluding VAT), to VND 2,204.0655/kWh (excluding VAT). This adjustment is equivalent to an increase of 4.8% compared to the current average retail electricity price. The price is implemented on the basis of Decision No. 28 of the Prime Minister on the structure of retail electricity prices; retail electricity price framework, and regulations related to electricity prices.

Electricity price increase

EVN said that this electricity price adjustment will ensure that poor households and policy families are not significantly affected. Poor households and social policy households will continue to receive support according to the provisions of Decision No. 28/2014 of the Prime Minister . Assessing the increase in electricity prices on electricity costs for household customers, households using electricity from 200 kWh or less will not see much increase in costs. Household electricity customers will pay an additional VND4,550 to over VND65,050/month depending on the level of usage. However, for households using electricity from 201 kWh or more, the cost of electricity will increase more. According to EVN's calculations, the group of service business customers (about 574,000 customers nationwide) will see an average increase of VND332,000/month per customer. As for production customers (about 1.98 million customers nationwide), after the price adjustment, each customer paid an average of 677,000 VND more per month. For administrative and professional customers (total 719,000 customers), after the price change, each customer paid an average of 125,000 VND more per month. The increase in electricity prices more or less affects the living expenses of people, business households, establishments, and enterprises; all customers are interested in using electricity economically, safely, and effectively in daily life, trading, business, operation, and production to ensure optimal costs.

Flexible energy saving

Meanwhile, the Department of Science and Technology supports people and businesses to open seminars to introduce many optimal power-saving devices at reasonable prices, creating airy working spaces, reducing electricity bills for daily life, production and business. Currently, many dragon fruit farms in the province have been installing famous brand LED bulbs to replace round bulbs for lighting off-season dragon fruit; the electricity bill for lighting in the month is lower than before. With EDEN HUB Agricultural Technology Joint Stock Company in Ham Thuan Bac commune, specializing in growing medicinal plants, growing ginger, lemongrass, extracting aromatic oils, hot oil, previously using the grid electricity system to pump water for the farm, now installing solar power for irrigation. Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Director of EDEN HUB Company said: “Currently, there are installment payment support programs for solar power installation, 20% down payment, the rest paid in 5 years. The company invested 220 million VND, installed a 30 kW solar power system; expected to get 3,612 kWh per month. The electricity output is enough for daytime farm irrigation; calculated price is lower than the investment cost to reduce average grid power consumption”.

Currently, in the hot summer season, electrical engineering experts advise many customers using electricity for daily life that the prolonged hot weather increases the demand for cooling devices such as air conditioners, the power consumption of air conditioners in the family alone can account for 60 - 70% of the total power consumption. In addition, when the outdoor temperature increases by 1 degree Celsius, the power consumption of air conditioners can increase by 2 - 3%... Along with that, EVN, Lam Dong electricity industry recommends that offices, production facilities, and people use electricity safely, economically, and effectively; especially during peak hours at noon and in the evening, noon from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm, evening from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm. In addition to using air conditioners properly, people should not use high-capacity electrical appliances (such as air conditioners, electric stoves, electric irons, etc.) at the same time to minimize the risk of local grid overload, ensure efficient use of electricity for customers, and limit sudden increases in electricity bills due to electricity usage being too high compared to normal.
