Disease control with technology
The farm raising 2,400 sow and 15,000 pigs of Thai Nguyen High-Tech Livestock Joint Stock Company in cooperation with Sunjin Vietnam Company is effectively applying technology to disease monitoring.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hieu, Executive Director of the farm, said: The farm is located in Trai Cau commune. To ensure the safety of the livestock, we have invested in a security camera system installed in key areas such as barns, food warehouses, quarantine areas, and farm entrances. Internet-connected cameras help managers monitor the farm remotely and detect early abnormalities in livestock farming. We have also invested in an automatic disinfection system using infrared sensors to identify people and vehicles entering and exiting the farm, activating the automatic disinfection spraying system, reducing the risk of disease spread.
Currently, the application of animal health monitoring technology through sensor devices is applied and implemented in most large-scale livestock farms (the whole province has more than 60 large-scale farms).
Mr. Duong Van Hao, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, affirmed: These devices help farmers control diseases well, implement good biosecurity, increase survival and weight gain rates, automate stages in livestock farming such as feeding, watering and automatic cleaning systems, helping farmers reduce labor and ensure biosecurity in production. Although it is only in the initial stages of application, the level of disease reduction at farms using monitoring technology increased by 25% compared to farms that did not apply.
In addition, livestock farms also apply the model of using closed barn systems and automatic feeding to control diseases well. Use vaccines to prevent diseases in livestock. Actively vaccinate livestock, mostly for cattle, vaccines for foot and mouth disease, swine fever, and bovine erysipelas are often used; for poultry, vaccines for avian influenza, Newcastle, and Gumboro are often used...

Build a safe zone against potential risks
After the merger, Thai Nguyen province has many potential risks of disease outbreaks in livestock due to small-scale, livestock farming, especially in mountainous and highland areas. Especially when the weather changes abnormally, rain, humidity... there is a risk of common livestock diseases such as anthrax in cattle and pigs; foot-and-mouth disease in cattle, avian influenza...
One of the risks that causes disease outbreaks in livestock is the limited technical level of many farmers, lack of knowledge on disease prevention and control, and free-range livestock, making vaccination difficult. Especially in highland areas such as Nam Cuong, Ba Be, Na Phac, Ngan Son, etc.
In addition, the slaughter of livestock and poultry at markets and on the roadside; some people have not proactively registered to vaccinate their family pets, making disease management and control difficult.
Faced with these potential risks, building disease-free livestock facilities and areas is essential. Mr. Duong Van Hao added: Not only does disease control work effectively, disease-free livestock farming also creates “clean” products for consumers, improving farm management efficiency, especially for chains linking from livestock farming, slaughtering to processing and consuming products.
Along with that, to develop sustainable livestock farming, all levels, functional sectors and people in the province need to continue to be proactive, improve capacity and effectiveness in preventing and controlling animal diseases; Synchronously implement measures to prevent dangerous infectious diseases (foot-and-mouth disease in cattle, lumpy skin disease in buffaloes and cows; African swine fever, avian influenza, rabies in dogs, etc.).
In particular, improve the rate and quality of vaccination, striving to reach over 80% of the total herd subject to vaccination; carry out well the work of monitoring, diagnosing and testing to detect epidemics and organize epidemic prevention if they occur; sanitation and disinfection work; strengthen quarantine, slaughter control, veterinary hygiene inspection; promote the application of biosafety livestock farming; apply advanced technology in livestock environment treatment...
