By effectively utilizing cultural exchange, promoting identity and investing in creativity, Dong Nai not only affirms its position as a dynamic economic development locality, but also gradually builds a rich cultural environment - where traditional values are preserved, nurtured and strongly spread in modern life.

Leveraging endogenous cultural power

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DTC) Le Thi Ngoc Loan said that right after the merger of Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces, the Dong Nai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism continued to identify the core task of comprehensively developing Dong Nai culture and people and building an advanced culture rich in national identity, in accordance with the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. This will be the foundation for culture to truly become an endogenous strength, a driving force for development and protection of the country.

“From that strategic orientation, Dong Nai is and will continue to implement many specific action programs. One of the important highlights is investing in infrastructure, upgrading degraded cultural institutions or those in convenient locations for transportation, easy to connect between communes and wards. Focus on promoting public-private cooperation in preserving and developing cultural arts, mobilizing social resources, capital from organizations and individuals to invest in works and projects in the cultural field” - Ms. Loan shared.

In recent times, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has focused on restoring and promoting traditional festivals and preserving folk cultural values. From the province to the grassroots level, propaganda and education on history and culture for students have been promoted, helping young people in particular and the people in general understand the value of traditional culture, thereby proactively preserving and participating in festival activities consciously. Units and localities have proactively opened training courses for artisans and grassroots cultural cores to maintain folk cultural forms, create a rich playground, and foster a spirit of solidarity in the community.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan emphasized: “In the current context of digital transformation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism continues to promote investment in developing synchronous and modern technology infrastructure to meet the requirements of the fourth industrial revolution. In particular, the industry prioritizes the development of a number of key cultural products with potential and advantages of the province such as: performing arts, fine arts, photography, cultural tourism... gradually improving the competitiveness of cultural industries, in line with development requirements in the new period".

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Quyet, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association of Dong Nai province, in order to promote the endogenous strength of culture, in addition to preserving and maintaining traditional values, it is necessary to "create" creative and modern cultural spaces to meet the diverse needs of people in the digital age. This is an inevitable trend in the process of developing the cultural industry, turning culture from a passive position to an active factor promoting socio-economic development.

Many models of open libraries, community reading spaces, and public cultural spaces have been deployed and replicated in many communes and wards in the province. In particular, many cultural houses that at one time had not yet fully utilized their functions are now being "revived" thanks to the integration of multiple functions: from places for organizing community activities, practicing sports to places for performing arts, showing mobile films, and even places to open training classes on animal husbandry and farming for people at the grassroots level.

Culture is not only a legacy of the past, but also an asset of the future. Today’s new Dong Nai, with its open space and increasingly strong human potential, is moving closer to the goal of developing a dynamic cultural industry, where traditional values are promoted, creativity is honored and international integration becomes the driving force for sustainable development.

Preserving identity, spreading new Dong Nai cultural values

Dong Nai is now facing a period of strong transformation. Cultural development is not only the task of the culture, sports and tourism sector, but also requires the synchronous participation of the entire political system, individuals, businesses and the whole society. Clearly defining the role of the "soft pillar" - people are the center and driving force of culture in sustainable development is a strategic step, affirming the province's long-term vision in the process of deep integration.

Ms. Dieu Thi Xia (residing in Bom Bo commune) said that as one of the young people of the Stieng ethnic community in the new Dong Nai province, she feels very proud of her homeland, which was once the cradle of the revolution, where the traditional profession of making rice wine and weaving brocade is recognized as a cultural heritage.

“We, the young generation in Bom Bo, are trying every day to preserve the unique cultural features of our people. Not only do we preserve and pass on traditional crafts, but we also actively introduce rice wine and brocade to local and provincial cultural and tourism events. Thereby, we create income for the Stieng community from our own culture,” Ms. Xia shared with pride.

According to Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan, in order for culture to truly become a solid spiritual foundation for development, the sector is continuing to develop the model of "community management - State support", decentralizing management and mobilizing community participation, giving more initiative to commune and ward authorities and residential communities in preserving heritage and managing cultural institutions. In addition, strengthening cooperation and training high-quality cultural human resources to meet the requirements of innovation in the period of industrialization and modernization of the country.
