To ensure production in this year's Summer-Autumn rice crop, right from the beginning of the crop, the agricultural sector has advised farmers to follow the crop calendar, sow seeds in a concentrated and simultaneous manner in each area, strengthen pest management, train farmers on rice production techniques and pest control, and prevent natural disasters, thereby limiting damage in rice production.

At the same time, farmers are advised to actively check their fields, use high-quality rice varieties, certified varieties or equivalent; apply scientific and technical solutions in production: careful soil preparation, production, sustainable farming and green growth, integrated plant health management (IPHM); recommend and replicate cost-reducing production models such as "3 reductions, 3 increases", "1 must, 5 reductions", sustainable farming, ecological technology models, apply the 4 correct principles in the use of pesticides, and balanced fertilization. Thanks to that, the quality of rice this crop is guaranteed. However, due to the impact of the weather, combined with low rice prices, the yield of this crop has decreased, causing farmers' profits to be lower than before.

In many fields, farmers harvested Summer-Autumn rice with a yield of 9-11 bags of fresh rice per hectare, estimated at about 22-28 bushels per hectare. According to farmers, this yield is not high, the reason is that the flowering time coincides with the rainy season, making the rice grains less fertile, while the hot weather, combined with irregular rain, makes the rice plants grow poorly.
Besides, rice prices also decreased, with the popular direct-sown rice variety OM 5451, farmers harvested and sold fresh rice in the field for 5,500-5,800 VND/kg.

Having just finished harvesting 6 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice of the OM 5451 variety, with about 11 bags of rice per hectare, Mr. Tran Van Minh (Long Ho commune) said: "The yield of this crop is about 27.5 bushels/hectare, equivalent to about 5.5 tons/ha. It is only quite good. Because I received the early deposit, the selling price is only 5,500 VND/kg. After deducting all expenses, I still have a profit of about 1 million VND/hectare.
This season, rice prices are low but the cost of fertilizers and pesticides has increased.

Mr. Tran Van Hai (Hoa Hiep commune) said: “This crop's rice yield decreased by about 20% compared to the same period last year. The reason is due to hot weather, alternating with irregular heavy rains, high humidity, so diseases increased a lot during the flowering stage. Rice prices also decreased by about 800-1,000 VND/kg, so there is not much profit.”

The functional sector forecasts that, with the unharvested Summer-Autumn rice fields, the area of ​​rice that has fallen over in the coming time is likely to increase, especially on the green-ripe rice fields. In addition, the area of ​​rice blast and grain sterility may increase due to the alternating rainy and sunny weather conditions. And the ripening stage of rice (especially on late rice fields) is suitable for the disease to develop, especially in fields with thick sowing, excess nitrogen fertilizer and fields with infected varieties... At the same time, rats continue to cause strong damage, especially in fields near the foot of gardens, fields with high mounds, along roads, vacant lots, near residential areas, and fields with unconcentrated sowing.

The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment) recommends that after harvesting Summer-Autumn rice, the fields should be cleaned and treated with Trichoderma fungus to help the straw decompose quickly to limit organic poisoning; monitor the migration of planthoppers to have a plan to plant Autumn-Winter rice to effectively "avoid planthoppers" according to the local recommended schedule. Apply a combination of cultivation measures right from the beginning of the season to effectively manage pests such as golden apple snails, thrips, rats, weeds, etc.

The current weather with alternating sunshine and rain is suitable for the development of rice blast disease on late summer-autumn rice and leaf blast disease on early autumn-winter rice. Note the appearance and damage caused by rats in rice fields in the flowering and ripening stages. Use large-scale, community-based rat extermination measures. Prioritize the use of mechanical traps and biological rat poison. Pay attention to collecting bait traps and rat carcasses to avoid environmental pollution. Absolutely do not use electricity to kill rats to avoid endangering people and other beneficial animals.

At the same time, the agricultural sector will also strengthen the direction of relevant units to regularly visit fields, investigate, closely follow each specific area, detect early pests and diseases on rice (especially pay attention to brown planthoppers, white planthoppers, blast disease, grain sterility, etc.), strengthen the work of estimating and forecasting the occurrence of pests through the light trap system, to have timely and effective prevention measures to minimize the impact of pests. In particular, continue to proactively prevent and control the spread and outbreak of harmful diseases on rice plants.
