Mr. Tran Dinh Phong - President of the Vietnam Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, who is the Standing Committee of the Youth Volunteer Campaign on Phu Quy Island in the summer of 2025, said: “We are a Youth Volunteer Team participating in the Program coordinated by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Binh Thuan Province 3 years ago, aiming to cooperate in developing tourism and socio-economic development on Phu Quy Island. This year, the team consists of 40 youth volunteers selected from universities, academies and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City to carry out projects serving the people in Phu Quy”.
More than 30 students along with a team of nearly 10 doctors and nurses have been on Phu Quy Island since June 15, decorating flag lines and coastal paintings; decorating playgrounds in primary schools and kindergartens; installing solar power projects on some roads and examining and treating people... The most special is the flag line project on Tam Thanh embankment, about 1 km long. More than 100 red flags with yellow stars fluttering brightly in the blue sky, in the vast sound of waves, decorated with 10 mural scenes. Each 10-meter-long mural scene on the embankment wall was made by students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, depicting images of the sea and islands with sovereignty markers, sandy beaches, waves; images of beautiful villages with flower fields, sunsets and long rays of sunlight, and bright dawns; The lines of words, at first glance, evoke sacred emotions and are filled with love: “Phu Quy Island, Phu Quy Special Zone, From Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quy, Continuing the story of Peace”… Every morning and evening, people and tourists leisurely walk along the road next to the breakwater, under the rows of red flags with yellow stars, making the paintings seem more vivid, more bustling, in harmony with the peaceful daily life on the island…
In addition to the flag street and the coastal mural street, the volunteer students also have projects at Tan Thanh Primary School, Tan Thanh Kindergarten, and 3 "countryside lighting" routes on Phu Quy Island. The projects were carried out by the volunteer youth group in 15 days (from June 15 to 30) and were officially completed to welcome the two-level government system and the Phu Quy special economic zone officially operating on July 1.
Although participating in volunteer activities every year, this was the first time coming to Phu Quy Island. Phong realized that not only himself, his friends in the volunteer group, but also many tourists really liked this island. In particular, the works of the volunteer youth group were welcomed and loved by the people and tourists, making them very happy and proud. Phong added: “The Literature topic of the 2K7 students this year is very meaningful with the message “The sky of any homeland is the sky of the Fatherland”. We came to Phu Quy at a very special moment for the whole nation, and Phu Quy carries a new responsibility as a special administrative unit. With the wishes of the young generation, of those who love history and those who love the culture of the country, we came to Phu Quy to spread and continue writing stories of peace …”.
Do Khanh Hoa - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, emotionally shared: “Looking at Phu Quy from the speedboat, we were very impressed with the flag row. Tonight, walking under the flag row, we discovered young people painting. Even though it was 7-8 pm, the Tam Thanh embankment was still bustling with laughter and chatter… Groups of volunteer students in green shirts were still absorbed in drawing the last strokes of the letters, the rays of sunlight, or the sunset… on the paintings. And these lines of letters made us overwhelmed with emotion. The work of the young people made not only the people of Phu Quy, but also the people of Ho Chi Minh City and domestic and international tourists coming here feel close, attached and proud of the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland”.
