HCMC: Most hospitals have prescribed electronic drugs

On July 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that most public hospitals in the area have completed integrating the electronic prescription system into the hospital management software (HIS), strictly implementing Circular No. 26/2025/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health on prescribing outpatient pharmaceuticals and biological products.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , medical facilities have implemented unified prescription forms, strictly controlled the prescription of addictive and psychotropic drugs, and ensured that each examination only prescribes one prescription and strictly adheres to the expiration date.

Notably, the new regulation allowing patients with chronic diseases to be prescribed for up to 90 days if their health is stable is also applied uniformly. This not only helps reduce the number of follow-up visits and save costs, but also makes it easier for the elderly, the disabled, and people in remote areas to maintain continuous treatment according to the regimen, reducing pressure on upper-level hospitals.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has coordinated with hospitals, the City Social Insurance and related units to closely monitor the implementation, ensuring professional efficiency, patient safety and compliance with health insurance payment regulations. At the same time, units are required to complete the electronic prescription roadmap before October 1, 2025 (for hospitals) and before January 1, 2026 (for other facilities).

In addition, units are required to organize training and propaganda so that people understand that long-term prescription is a policy to support continuous treatment, not "arbitrary dispensing", avoiding unnecessary re-examination, contributing to reducing hospital overload.
