In order to take advantage of people updating their hometown information via the VNeID application, cybercriminals are said to have used many fraudulent methods to ask people to access links or install fake VNeID applications containing malware. According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05) under the Ministry of Public Security , to serve their purposes, cybercriminals impersonated functional forces at the commune/ward level to defraud people. When people comply, they will lure them to provide OTP codes for bank accounts or biometric data to commit property appropriation.
To protect yourself, Department A05 recommends that people be vigilant and not follow requests over the phone. People should only update information directly at the police station of the commune/ward where they live. If you detect signs of fraud, immediately report it to the nearest police station for support.
