Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and presented flowers and souvenir flags to representatives of participating delegations.
Also attending were: General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security; Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Minister of National Defense, along with the presence of more than 20 Ambassadors and representatives of embassies and diplomatic missions in Vietnam.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, emphasized: The 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament is organized with the desire to strongly spread the spirit of solidarity, discipline, dedication and inspiration of the king sport; strengthen friendship between countries in the region and the world, as well as between Vietnam and other countries, between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Police forces of other countries. The tournament contributes to promoting close and effective cooperation in ensuring security, order, fighting and preventing crime - especially transnational crime - for a world of peace, security, stability and prosperity.
Promoting the sports spirit of “Solidarity - Honesty - Nobility”, General Luong Tam Quang believes that the 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament will be a great success, contributing to fans with good matches and beautiful goals, leaving a deep impression; demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and effective cooperation between the Police forces to protect the peaceful and happy life of the people, for world peace.
At the same time, continue to affirm that Vietnam is always a friend, reliable partner and active, responsible member of the international community, always striving to contribute to regional and global peace and stability.
Also at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang presented flowers and souvenir flags to the 8 heads of delegations from participating countries. Representatives of the Ministry of Public Security presented honorary plaques to units and businesses accompanying this year's tournament.
The opening ceremony was elaborately and grandly staged, harmoniously combining traditional and modern music, imbued with the cultural identity of ASEAN countries, transcending all cultural and linguistic boundaries; expressing the aspirations, solidarity and noble ideals of the new generation of police officers. The artistic performances conveyed the message of peace, cooperation and friendship between the police force - those who are working day and night for the community, for security, safety, stability and sustainable development.
The 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament is hosted by the Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with the Vietnam Football Federation, the Vietnam Sports Department, and the main sponsors of T&T Group and SHB Bank. The tournament is one of the activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025).
The tournament took place from July 7 to 15, bringing together 8 football teams representing the police forces of the following countries: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Timor Leste, Australia and host Vietnam (2 teams).
According to the format, 8 teams are divided into 2 groups, competing in a round robin to calculate points; the top two teams in each group enter the semi-finals, the two semi-final winners meet in the final to compete for the championship.
The final and awards ceremony will take place on July 15.
