On July 9, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Philippine Foreign Minister Maria Theresa Lazaro.
Congratulating Ms. Lazaro on her appointment as the Philippines’ Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his belief that with her experience and capacity, Ms. Lazaro will make active contributions to promoting the Vietnam-Philippines strategic partnership as well as regional and international cooperation. Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with the Philippines to promote the effective implementation of bilateral agreements, for the common interests of the two peoples and the goal of building a region of peace , stability, self-reliance and sustainable development.
Appreciating the friendship and cooperation between the two countries over the past nearly 50 years, Minister Lazaro affirmed that the Philippines always attaches importance to the strategic partnership with Vietnam, hoping that the two countries will continue to maintain positive cooperation momentum in all fields, closely coordinate at regional and international forums, especially in ASEAN, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.

The two sides highly appreciated the positive developments in the Vietnam-Philippines strategic partnership in recent times, affirming the importance of maintaining high-level visits and contacts and promoting the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms. The two sides agreed to continue to further promote cooperation in areas such as defense - security, economy - trade, sea and ocean, education - training, and people-to-people exchange.
On this occasion, the two Ministers discussed international and regional situations of mutual concern, pledging to continue to closely coordinate and actively support each other at regional and international forums such as the United Nations, ASEAN, etc., contributing to peace and stability in the region.
