To ensure timely blood supply for emergency and treatment during the summer, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion calls on people with good health conditions to arrange time to donate blood and give life to patients.

In July and August 2025, the National Blood Center under the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion is expected to need at least 90,000 units of blood to supply more than 180 hospitals in the Northern region. The Institute has actively coordinated with units, agencies, and organizations to organize blood donation sessions, responding to the "Summer Blood Drops" campaign launched by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation. Many agencies, unions, and youth unions have joined in spreading this meaningful message.
However, to ensure timely blood demand, the Institute still needs to supplement at least 30,000 more units of blood this summer. Notably, blood type O alone - the blood type that is often scarce - needs about 15,000 more units.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh - Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion said that summer is always a difficult time for blood collection because many people are busy traveling , students are on summer vacation, returning to their hometowns, leading to a sharp decrease in blood reserves. Meanwhile, the need for treatment is still increasing, especially for children with congenital hemolytic anemia who need regular blood transfusions to maintain life and prepare for the new school year.
He emphasized: "Blood is a "special product", cannot be preserved for a long time, and there is no substitute product. Therefore, blood donation needs to be maintained regularly and continuously. I earnestly call on all people with health conditions to participate in blood donation this summer, because "each drop of blood given - a life remains".
The message "Donate blood, give hope - Join hands to save people" of the World Health Organization on the occasion of International Blood Donor Day June 14 further emphasizes the meaning that each unit of blood donated is a hope for life for the sick, a belief that is extended.
The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion hopes that the community will continue to accompany us, go to the nearest blood donation points to donate precious drops of blood, contributing to saving the lives of thousands of patients in need of blood.
Previously, on June 20, 2025, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation - signed an official dispatch requesting localities to continue promoting blood donation, maintain regular blood donation schedules and organize blood donation, contributing to ensuring the blood reception target in 2025, ready to save lives when necessary.
The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion hopes that those who are in good health will arrange a time to donate blood at the Institute, at fixed blood donation points or the nearest blood donation point - each drop of blood donated is an additional hope for life for the patient. Please bring your ID or present the VNeID application (level 2 identification) when donating blood.
